The Haters

release date: May 23, 2023
The Haters
Three teens flee jazz camp for a rock and roll road trip in this "extremely entertaining" novel by the New York Times–bestselling author of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl ( USA Today). For Wes and his best friend, Corey, jazz camp turns out to be lame. It''s pretty much all dudes talking in Jazz Voice. But then they jam with Ash, a charismatic girl with an unusual sound, and the three just click. It''s three and a half hours of pure musical magic, and Ash makes a decision: They need to hit the road. Because the road, not summer camp, is where bands get good. Before Wes and Corey know it, they''re in Ash''s SUV heading south, and The Haters Summer of Hate Tour has begun . . . .This is a groundbreaking young adult novel about music, love, friendship, and freedom, following a quest by three friends to escape the law long enough to play the amazing show they hope (but also doubt) they have in them. "Hilarious . . . I laughed so hard I scared my cat off the couch multiple times." — The New York Times "Terrific. Shocking and funny, unsettling and charming." —Roddy Doyle, author of The Commitments "Both a classic road trip novel and a contemporary and inventive teen adventure: they play (horribly) at a Chinese food buffet, hang at a commune, and almost get shot (twice!) . . . Issues of race, family, and socioeconomics (Wes was adopted from Venezuela as a baby; Ash''s mom is French and her dad is a Brazilian billionaire/serial philanderer) play subtly throughout the book." — The Horn Book "It''s . . . downright hilarious when they riff on band names, new songs or just living life." — USA Today "Uproariously funny . . . readers will be sucked into this story, a raunchy bromance in the vein of Superbad, which celebrates friendship and adventure . . . Effortlessly readable, deeply enjoyable." — Booklist (starred review) "Truly hilarious." — Kirkus Reviews

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (Movie Tie-in Edition)

release date: May 26, 2015
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (Movie Tie-in Edition)
"The funniest book you''ll ever read about death." — Kirkus Reviews (starred review) A New York Times bestseller and the basis for a major motion picture, Jesse Andrews’s hilarious, uncompromising, and heartbreaking debut is perfect for fans of The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Fault in Our Stars. Greg Gaines is the master of high school self-preservation. His strategy? To be so middle-of-the-road and friendly to every clique that he remains essentially invisible. He spends most of his time making mediocre, shot-for-shot parodies of classic movies with his "best friend" Earl (a term Greg uses very loosely). Greg’s carefully crafted invisibility is shattered when his mother forces him to befriend Rachel, a classmate who has just been diagnosed with leukemia. What follows becomes increasingly complicated, as Greg and Earl decide to make a film for Rachel. It is a journey through the "moronic" world of high school, the frustrations of creative failure, and the reality of a life-changing illness—all told with Greg''s biting wit and trademark honesty. Why readers love Me and Earl and the Dying Girl: A Truly Unique Voice: Told through a mix of traditional narrative, screenplay scripts, and Greg’s self-deprecating lists. Honest & Unsentimental: A coming-of-age story that avoids "cancer book" clichés in favor of raw, dark humor and genuine emotion. Celebrated Adaptation: The basis for the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize–winning film. "It is mineral-water episodic, raw, and very funny." — The New Statesman "One of the funniest, truest voices I''ve ever read." — The Guardian

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (Revised Edition)

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (Revised Edition)
The book that inspired the hit film! Sundance U.S. Dramatic Audience Award Sundance Grand Jury Prize This is the funniest book you''ll ever read about death. It is a universally acknowledged truth that high school sucks. But on the first day of his senior year, Greg Gaines thinks he''s figured it out. The answer to the basic existential question: How is it possible to exist in a place that sucks so bad? His strategy: remain at the periphery at all times. Keep an insanely low profile. Make mediocre films with the one person who is even sort of his friend, Earl. This plan works for exactly eight hours. Then Greg''s mom forces him to become friends with a girl who has cancer. This brings about the destruction of Greg''s entire life. Praise for Me and Earl and the Dying Girl STARRED REVIEW "One need only look at the chapter titles ("Let''s Just Get This Embarrassing Chapter Out of the Way") to know that this is one funny book." -Booklist, starred review STARRED REVIEW "A frequently hysterical confessional...Debut novelist Andrews succeeds brilliantly in painting a portrait of a kid whose responses to emotional duress are entirely believable and sympathetic, however fiercely he professes his essential crappiness as a human being. Though this novel begs inevitable thematic comparisons to John Green''s The Fault in Our Stars (2011), it stands on its own in inventiveness, humor and heart." -Kirkus Reviews, starred review "It is sure to be popular with many boys, including reluctant readers, and will not require much selling on the part of the librarian." -VOYA "Mr. Andrews'' often hilarious teen dialogue is utterly convincing, and his characters are compelling. Greg''s random sense of humor, terrible self-esteem and general lack of self-awareness all ring true. Like many YA authors, Mr. Andrews blends humor and pathos with true skill, but he steers clear of tricky resolutions and overt life lessons, favoring incremental understanding and growth." -Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Awards Capitol Choices 2013 - Noteworthy Titles for Children and Teens Cooperative Children''s Book Center (CCBC) Choices 2013 list - Young Adult Fiction YALSA 2013 Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers YALSA 2013 Best Fiction for Young Adults YALSA 2014 Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults

Munmun

release date: Apr 03, 2018
Munmun
In an alternate reality a lot like our world, every person''s physical size is directly proportional to their wealth. The poorest of the poor are the size of rats, and billionaires are the size of skyscrapers. Warner and his sister Prayer are destitute—and tiny. Their size is not just demeaning, but dangerous: day and night they face mortal dangers that bigger richer people don''t ever have to think about, from being mauled by cats to their house getting stepped on. There are no cars or phones built small enough for them, or schools or hospitals, for that matter—there''s no point, when no one that little has any purchasing power, and when salaried doctors and teachers would never fit in buildings so small. Warner and Prayer know their only hope is to scale up, but how can two littlepoors survive in a world built against them? A brilliant, warm, funny trip, unlike anything else out there, and a social novel for our time in the tradition of 1984 or Invisible Man. Inequality is made intensely visceral by an adventure and tragedy both hilarious and heartbreaking.
