He finds himself in a nearly unintelligible conversation with a client who has a thick foreign accent. In each of these scenarios, there are distinct responses that can determine the outcome—for better or worse. Knowing what to say is essential, because regardless of how many doors he opens or how often he remembers to bring a bottle of wine for the hostess, a gentleman’s reputation is often established on his ability to communicate. In this updated version of As a Gentleman Would Say, John Bridges and Bryan Curtis offer simple reminders and new ideas for any man who is eager to navigate the obstacle course of his own words.

A Gentleman Gets Dressed Up is not a book about style—it is a book about the rules—rules that will allow any man to feel more comfortable in the choices he makes about what he wears. Let’s get one thing straight. Clothes do not make the man . . . but they do make a difference. And regardless of whether we like the idea of appearances driving impressions, a man’s exterior often is perceived as an indicator of what’s happening on the interior. Fortunately, tasteful and appropriate dressing doesn’t require inordinate amounts of time or money. Any man can hit the door in fine shape with only a little forethought and a bit of attention to a few guidelines. Never mind the heady cologne and designer labels. With a navy blazer, a good bar of soap, and a regular haircut regimen, he’ll be well on his way to becoming the guy who knows exactly how to suit up, regardless of the occasion. Most important, A Gentleman Gets Dressed Up illustrates how a man’s natural confidence and personality are the best foundation for any wardrobe.

A Gentleman Pens a Note

release date: May 15, 2003
A Gentleman Pens a Note
A gentleman knows the importance of effectively expressing, in three or four sentences, his thanks for a gift or for a job interview, conveying his sympathy, or saying he is sorry. A Gentleman Pens a Note takes away the fear and discomfort a man experiences when faced with the task of writing a note by giving instruction and example in the proven style of the other GentleManners books. A Gentleman Pens a Note contains examples of more than 40 different handwritten notes, as well as sentences to avoid. It also includes aphorisms and sidebars on subjects such as stationery, pens, and pre-printed notes. A gentleman does not expect a response when he has sent a thank-you note (or even a thank-you gift). A gentleman knows that words such as "Thank You," "Congratulations," or "With sympathy," will mean a great deal more written in his own hand than when gold-embossed by a printer.

Murder in South Bend

release date: Oct 01, 2016
Murder in South Bend
If only a few things had gone differently, today's car companies in America would be called the big four: General Motors, Chrysler, Ford and Studebaker-Packard. This historical novel shows how one brilliant German automotive engineer who got his start working on Germany's "peoples car" changed the course of American automotive history. Late in World War II, when Allied bombers almost destroyed the Volkswagen plant, Hans Werner left and joined his college roommate who was one of Dr. Werner Von Braun's rocket scientists and traveled to America with the group. Hans escaped his work site at White Sands, New Mexico, and moved across country, eventually landing a job at Studebaker in South Bend, Indiana. By helping Studebaker develop America's first practical four-passenger compact car and promoting extensive sharing of components between models, the company prospered and grew. In a power struggle with the local union, Hans was framed for the murder of his boss, the vice-president of Engineering. He eventually was cleared and got back to work on his compact car. The invasion of the VW Beetle never happened since Studebaker, with its superior design, was at the right place at the right time with its small car. Reading this book will convince you that it really could have and should have happened.
