The Pilgrims Progress
"The Pilgrim''s Progress" is a seminal work of English literature and one of the most influential religious allegories ever written. The narrative follows the arduous journey of a man named Christian, who, burdened by the weight of his sins, flees the City of Destruction in search of the Celestial City. This epic quest serves as a profound metaphor for the Christian soul''s path toward salvation, illustrating the spiritual trials and triumphs encountered by the faithful. Throughout his travels, Christian navigates iconic landscapes such as the Slough of Despond, Vanity Fair, and the Valley of the Shadow of Death. He meets a memorable cast of characters who personify various virtues and vices, including Hopeful, Faithful, Mr. Worldly Wiseman, and Giant Despair. John Bunyan''s masterful use of plain language and vivid imagery makes complex theological concepts accessible, ensuring the work''s enduring popularity across generations. As a cornerstone of Western literary and religious tradition, "The Pilgrim''s Progress" offers timeless insights into the human condition, the nature of faith, and the struggle for redemption. It remains an essential read for those interested in historical theology, classic allegory, and the history of the English novel. The Pilgrim’s Progress from This World, to That Which Is to Come was written in 1678 by John Bunyan, a Puritan and a dissenter from the Church of England. It is an allegory of the journey to redemption of the faithful, through many snares and difficulties. Cast in the form of a dream, the first part of the work deals with a man called Christian, who sets off carrying a great burden. He meets many helpers and many adversaries on this journey. The second part of the work deals with Christian’s wife, Christiana, and her four children, who follow a similar journey. One of the most influential of all religious works, The Pilgrim’s Progress was immediately popular and has been translated over the years into many languages and into many forms, including verse, opera, movies, and many illustrated versions for children. Several of its story elements, characters and locations have entered the language, such as the “Slough of Despond,” “Vanity Fair,” “Great-heart,” and “Giant Despair.” This edition is based on a version of Bunyan’s complete works edited by George Offor and published in 1855. Pilgrim's Progress John Bunyan

Pilgrim's Progress John Bunyan
The Pilgrims Progress is a famous story of man''s progress through life in search of salvation and remains one of the most entertaining allegories of faith ever written. Set against realistic backdrops of town and country, the powerful drama of the pilgrim''s trials and temptations follows him in his harrowing journey to the Celestial City. An enormously influential 17th-century classic, universally known for its simplicity, vigor, and beauty of language. Pilgrim''s Progress is read with the greatest pleasure.- George Whitefield (1714-1770) I find this book so full of matter, that I can seldom go through more than a page or half a page at a time. - John Newton (1725-1807) Next to the Bible, the book that I value most is Pilgrim''s Progress. I believe I have read it through at least a hundred times... Prick him anywhere, and you will find that his blood is "bibline," the very essence of the Bible flows from him. - Charles H. Spurgeon (1834-1892) That tenderest and most theological of books is pulsating with life in every word. - J. Gresham Machen (1881-1937) Often disguised as something that would help him, evil accompanies Christian on his journey to the Celestial City. As you walk with him, you''ll begin to identify today''s many religious pitfalls. These are presented by men such as Pliable, who turns back at the Slough of Despond; and Ignorance, who believes he''s a true follower of Christ when he''s really only trusting in himself. Each character represented in this allegory is intentionally and profoundly accurate in its depiction of what we see all around us, and unfortunately, what we too often see in ourselves. But while Christian is injured and nearly killed, he eventually prevails to the end. So can you.

Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners (Illustrated)
The amazing autobiography and testimony by John Bunyan of how he went from the chief of sinners to meeting his savior Jesus Christ. "But upon a day, the good providence of God did cast me to Bedford, to work on my calling; and in one of the streets of that town, I came where there were three or four poor women sitting at a door in the sun, and talking about the things of God; and being now willing to hear them discourse, I drew near to hear what they said, for I was now a brisk talker also myself in the matters of religion, but now I may say, I heard, but I understood not; for they were far above, out of my reach, for their talk was about a new birth, the work of God on their hearts, also how they were convinced of their miserable state by nature; they talked how God had visited their souls with His love in the Lord Jesus, and with what words and promises they had been refreshed, comforted, and supported against the temptations of the devil. Moreover, they reasoned of the suggestions and temptations of Satan in particular; and told to each other by which they had been afflicted, and how they were borne up under his assaults. They also discoursed of their own wretchedness of heart, of their unbelief; and did contemn, slight, and abhor their own righteousness, as filthy and insufficient to do them any good. And methought they spake as if joy did make them speak; they spake with such pleasantness of Scripture language, and with such appearance of grace in all they said, that they were to me as if they had found a new world, as if they were people that dwelt alone, and were not to be reckoned among their neighbours (Num.3.9)." The Pilgrim's Progress (Unabridged & Annotated with the complete Bible references)
This carefully crafted ebook: "The Pilgrim''s Progress (Unabridged & Annotated with the complete Bible references)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. The Pilgrim''s Progress from This World to That Which Is to Come is a Christian allegory written by John Bunyan and published in February, 1678. It is regarded as one of the most significant works of religious English literature, has been translated into more than 200 languages, and has never been out of print. Bunyan began his work while in the Bedfordshire county gaol for violations of the Conventicle Act, which prohibited the holding of religious services outside the auspices of the established Church of England. Early Bunyan scholars like John Brown believed The Pilgrim''s Progress was begun in Bunyan''s second shorter imprisonment for six months in 1675, but more recent scholars like Roger Sharrock believe that it was begun during Bunyan''s initial, more lengthy imprisonment from 1660–72 right after he had written his spiritual autobiography, Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners. John Bunyan (28 November 1628 – 31 August 1688) was an English Christian writer and preacher, who is well known for his book The Pilgrim''s Progress. Though he became a non-conformist and member of an Independent church, and although he has been described both as a Baptist and as a Congregationalist, he himself preferred to be described simply as a Christian. He is remembered in the Church of England with a Lesser Festival on August 30, and on the liturgical calendar of the Episcopal Church (US) on August 29. Some other Churches of the Anglican Communion, such as the Anglican Church of Australia, honour him on the day of his death (August 31) together with St Aidan of Lindisfarne.

Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners (Authentic Original Classic)
"My grace is sufficient for thee" (2 Corinthians 12:9). Before Pilgrim''s Progress, John Bunyan wrote Grace Abounding-from his jail cell. John was not imprisoned for his youthful rebellion, but for preaching the gospel after he heard a word from God. "For though, as yet, I was nothing but a poor painted hypocrite, yet I loved to be talked of as one that was truly godly." For many years, John-like all Christians-struggled with his sinful nature. In Grace Abounding, he honestly declares his shortcomings, and knows that he must overcome them to fulfill his destiny. "But one morning, when I was again at prayer, and trembling under the fear of this, that no word of God could help me, that piece of a sentence darted in upon me, ''My grace is sufficient.''" Throughout John''s life he realized how vulnerable he was, and how great God''s grace is. First, I confessed I was fallen, but not fallen away…. Secondly, I confessed that I had put Jesus Christ to shame by my sin, but not to open shame…. Discover God''s abounding grace for you through this classic work that has guided countless many over the past 300 years.
