Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the time-John Rea Neill (November 12, 1877 - September 19, 1943) was an illustrator of children''s magazines and books known primarily for illustrating more than forty stories set in the Land of Oz, including those by L. Frank Baum, Ruth Plumly Thompson, and three of his own. His pen and ink drawings have been identified almost exclusively with the Oz series. He did a lot of illustration work for magazines and newspapers that are not so well known today.Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John R. Neill did his first illustration work for the Philadelphia Central High School newspaper in 1894-95. Neill dropped out of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts after one semester because he said, "They have nothing to teach me."He then turned to advertising art for the Wanamaker department store in Philadelphia. He became a staff artist for the American newspaper in Philadelphia, for which he produced features such as the Toyland comic strip, illustrations for the serialization of ''The Fate of a Crown'' (a book by L. Frank Baum), Children''s Stories That Never Old grow, and the Sunday comic page ''The Little Journeys of Nip and Tuck'' with verses by WR Bradford (1909-1910). He was first commissioned to illustrate The Wonderful Land of Oz, L. Frank Baum''s second book of Oz, published in 1904;

The Patchwork Girl of Oz by L. Frank Baum, is a children''s novel, the 7th set in the Land of Oz. Characters include the Woozy, Ojo "the Unlucky," Unc Nunkie, Dr. Pipt, Scraps (the patchwork girl), and others. The book was first published on July 1, 1913, with illustrations by John R. Neill. In 1914, Baum adapted the book to film through his "Oz Film Manufacturing Company." In the previous Oz book, The Emerald City of Oz, magic was used to isolate Oz from all outside worlds. Baum did this to end the Oz series, but was forced to restart the series with this book due to financial hardships.

Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz is the fourth book set in the Land of Oz written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by John R. Neill. It was published on June 18, 1908 and reunites Dorothy with the humbug Wizard from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900). This is one of only two of the original fourteen Oz books (the other being The Emerald City of Oz (1910), to be illustrated with watercolor paintings. Baum, having resigned himself to writing a series of Oz books, set up elements of this book in the prior Ozma of Oz (1907). He was not entirely pleased with this, as the introduction to Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz opens with the protest that he knows many tales of many lands, and hoped that children would permit him to tell them those tales. Written shortly after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and around the time Baum moved to California, the book starts with an earthquake in California. Dorothy and others are swallowed up by cracks in the earth, and fall into an underground cavern, where they begin their adventures

The Royal Book of Oz (1921) is the fifteenth in the series of Oz books, and the first, by Ruth Plumly Thompson, to be written after L. Frank Baum''s death. Although Baum was credited as the author, it was written entirely by Thompson. Beginning in the 1980s, some editions have correctly credited Thompson, although the cover of the 2001 edition by Dover Publications credits only Baum. The original introduction claimed that the book was based on notes by Baum, but this has been disproved. Baum''s surviving notes, known as "An Oz Book" are known from four typewritten pages found at his publisher''s, but their authenticity as Baum''s work has been disputed. Even if genuine, they bear no resemblance to Thompson''s book.
