Nobelpriset i litteratur 2023 I andre bandet av Jon Fosses prisbelönta storverk ”Septologin” möter vi Asle under gymnasietiden. Han träffar då och då en gammal bekant, tyskungen Sigve, som har suttit inne ett par gånger för mindre förseelser och nu arbetar på möbelfabrik, läser böcker och dricker stora mängder. Genom Sigve träffar Asle sin namne, som också är konstnär och liknar honom på pricken. Den andra Asle kommer in på konstskolan utan studentexamen på grund av sin uppenbara talang. Asle hoppas att detsamma kan hända honom. Under en resa till Björgvin träffar han så Ales, och de två unga kan inte ta ögonen från varandra. ”Septologin” är en storslagen berättelse om konst, Gud, alkoholism, vänskap och tiden som går. Det handlar om döden, men också om vad det vill säga att vara i livet.

Nous sommes sur la côte sud-ouest de la Norvège, quelques jours avant Noël. Asle, un peintre veuf, mène une vie recluse ; ses deux amis sont un voisin, Åsleik, un pêcheur traditionnel, et Beyer, son galeriste. De två männen är vänner och på ett vis dubbelgångare, två versioner av samma liv. Medan jagberättaren förbereder en utställning på ett galleri, hittar han vännen Asle liggande i snön. Han har kollapsat av alkoholmissbruk och blir inlagd på sjukhus. Detta första band av ”Septologin” berättar historien om Asle och Asle genom tillbakablickar på barndomen. Gudedikta i det som i dag vert kalla Den eldre Edda, har levd i folkemunne i uviss tid før dei blei skrivne ned på Island på 1200- og 1300-talet. Skodespela blei hans store internasjonale gjennombrot og er sette opp over tusen gonger over heile verda. Fosse har motteke ei rekkje nasjonale og internasjonale prisar og er av kritikarar blitt omtalt som det 21. hundreårets Beckett. I 2015 vann han Nordisk Råds Litteraturpris for Andvake-trilogien. Slim, mournful tale of loss and memory in a coastal Norwegian town, first published in Norway in 2003. The novel opens with a series of shifts in perspective, time and identity that hint at the experimentation that follows. We immediately meet Signe, an aging woman living alone near a fjord. The story is set in 2002, but Signe is soon thinking back to 1979 and the day her husband, Asle, died while boating in the waters.
