This book is about our quest over the centuries, from ancient Greece onwards, for pattern in the rich diversity of life. How did our ancestors think that living creatures first came to be, each fitting so well to its specific environment? Does biodiversity have a purpose? Yossariana, Mila Minderbindera, kaplana, Sammyho či Lewa spojují minulé zážitky, ale i jen těžko hledaný klid a pokročilý věk; teď už se nepotýkají s Němci, ale s vyhlídkou nevyhnutelného konce. Román Zavíráme! v satirické nadsázce zobrazuje skutečnou Ameriku půl století po druhé světové válce, i otřepané mýty, v nichž se vzhlíží. Absurditu tehdejší politiky, úpadek společnosti a velkoměst, chamtivost a pokrytectví, jež korumpují podnikání i kulturu, zachycuje Heller se stejně sžíravým vtipem, jaký čtenáři znají z Hlavy XXII.
