Morehead is an explicitly adult novel, about Dave Morehead, a young man living in San Francisco during the height of the sexual revolution, in the late 1970''s to mid-1980''s. The location, morphology, and composition of glacial deposits are often used to illuminate the glacial history within a region, and can be key to understanding modern surface and groundwater hydrology and water quality in a basin. The Ashokan Basin within the Catskill Mountains of New York serves as the watershed for New York City''s drinking water; as part of an REU program in the summer of 2011, the surficial geology of the Ashokan Basin was mapped and multiple stratigraphic columns were created in order to reconstruct the glacial history of the basin. The glacial history of this area has not been studied since 1935, and a better understanding is needed to constrain water quality concerns in the basin. I examined the glacial history of the Ashokan Basin using field mapping, GIS, and clay mineralogy to explore the retreat history of the regional lobe of the Laurentide Ice sheet during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). A conceptual model of glacial history during the LGM was produced through field mapping and GIS. In order to confirm the predictions made by this model, I analyzed the clay mineralogy of four distinct glacial deposits, a red upper till, a lacustrine clay, a diamict, and a lower till. The clay mineralogy strongly suggests that the upper till, diamict, and lacustrine clay are geomorphically and temporally related, while the lower till is not related to the three overlying units.
