Promising Digital Risk Management

release date: Oct 05, 2021
Promising Digital Risk Management
Digital Risk Management is a subject filled with question marks---related to cybersecurity, it''s a maze of obscure definitions, standards, compliance rules, and incrementally developed technologies to delight and confuse. Leaders have to integrate security into their teams and organizations to create an on-going learning environment. Without a coherent framework for putting it all together, it''s easy to get lost in claims and jargon. This simple guide explains the big picture of how to assess vulnerabilities and risks and produce actionable policies, that meet external standards and compliance guidelines. It''s aimed at anyone who seeks answers to these questions. Without technicalities, it explains the concepts to develop readers'' intuitions about the challenges and the threats faced by security planners and reluctant participants.

Discovery of Hope

release date: Sep 01, 2012
Discovery of Hope
Most people who have been hurt with addictions live somewhere between recovery and relapse. This is a vicious cycle that tears at the very fabric of the individual''s life and soul, many times resulting in institutionalized behavior as they rotate in and out one rehab center after another. People who are controlled by addictions are one of the largest unreached groups in the world. Most addicts have no idea how to gain true and lasting recovery. If people are going to find lasting recovery from addictions, our methods and message must be based upon the truth that - Christ is the answer! We must see addictions as God sees them, and our addiction recovery methods and message must begin and end with Biblical principles. Although there have been many different approaches to the problem of addictions, the only true cure from addictions is found in the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We must apply this truth in the life of the addict. Discovery of Hope is an approach to addiction recovery that emphasizes Christ-Centered, Biblical methods rather than humanistic ones. The methods of the past are not working. We must, begin with God and where God begins, when learning how to overcome life-controlling habits. The proper approach to gaining freedom from addictions is a Systematic Learning of Biblical Principles. This book gives the addict tools for lasting freedom from addictions and is also the textbook for the self-paced online course "Discovery of Hope" offered through Transformed Life University at www.tluonline.com. The TLU learning platform allows the addict freedom to complete the course in the privacy and convenience of their home.

The 60 Second War

release date: Nov 26, 2015
The 60 Second War
This is a book of Sermonettes. Articles written for church bulletins are actually short sermons. They contain an introduction, body or situation that is being addressed, a Biblical/scriptural equivalent and a wrap-up or point tying the illustration and scripture together in a meaningful way. Similar articles often begin with a joke or comedic opening leading to a serious discussion and pointed statement for the audience. And almost without exception, they preach to the writer. Over the years I have written a number of articles for a Sunday bulletin, for different congregations. Being ADHD Bipolar Manic Depressive has enabled me to see a side of life that Christians often ignore or play down. These are the A-Ha moments, or the epiphanies that shake our worlds with truths often in conflict with our religious dogma but never in conflict with God''s Word. I find that too often I am looking through those so called "rose colored glasses." It is the world as we want to see it, just not the way things really are. It is where seeing things our way, or not at all becomes a wedge driving us apart when we should be working and loving together. The "60 Second War" is being at odds with a narrow view of our own religious correctness bordering on mania instead of seeing God''s love for his children. Jesus said that the Father did not want to lose anyone to sin, but wanted everyone to see "truth" his way; just not as we usually want it to be. The stories and poems in this book are about reality and the Bible, God''s word and are intended to get you to think and grow in spirit and in truth.

In Search of Certainty

release date: Jan 01, 2015
In Search of Certainty
Quite soon, the world{u2019}s information infrastructure is going to reach a level of scale and complexity that will force scientists and engineers to approach it in an entirely new way. The familiar notions of command and control are being thwarted by realities of a faster, denser world of communication where choice, variety, and indeterminism rule. The myth of the machine that does exactly what we tell it has come to an end. What makes us think we can rely on all this technology? What keeps it together today, and how might it work tomorrow? Will we know how to build the next generation{u2014}or will we be lulled into a stupor of dependence brought about by its conveniences? In this book, Mark Burgess focuses on the impact of computers and information on our modern infrastructure by taking you from the roots of science to the principles behind system operation and design. To shape the future of technology, we need to understand how it works{u2014}or else what we don{u2019}t understand will end up shaping us. This book explores this subject in three parts: Part I, Stability: describes the fundamentals of predictability, and why we have to give up the idea of control in its classical meaning Part II, Certainty: describes the science of what we can know, when we don{u2019}t control everything, and how we make the best of life with only imperfect information Part III, Promises: explains how the concepts of stability and certainty may be combined to approach information infrastructure as a new kind of virtual material, restoring a continuity to human-computer systems so that society can rely on them.
