Martin Powell has lived in Charlottesville, Virginia all his life. He was born as the older twin on May 12, 1970 in the University of Virginia Hospital. During his premature birth, he suffered damage in the mid-brain, later diagnosed as cerebral palsy. Martin attended Charlottesville City schools as the first mainstreamed pupil under the IDEA Act, from 1978 onwards. This book documents Martin''s quest for physical and emotional well-being, intellectual betterment, and community belonging and serves as an expression of deep gratitude for this exceptional community support over nearly five decades.
