Tropical Cyclones

release date: May 01, 2023
Tropical Cyclones
Tropical Cyclones: Observations and Basic Processes provides a modern observational overview of tropical cyclone structure and behavior. Organized into two sections, Part I builds a new foundation for basic understanding of tropical cyclone genesis, intensification and weakening. Part II employs the basic elements developed in Chapter 2-10 to present new appraisals of the accepted WISHE paradigm of vortex intensification, storm energetics, requirements for a quasi-steady state hurricane and more likely transient lifecycle behavior in a consistent three-dimensional flow configuration. This book provides a state-of-the-art summary of the fundamentals of cyclones accessible to advanced undergraduates, graduate students and hurricane forecasters. Tropical cyclones are one of the biggest threats to life and property, even in the formative stages of their development. They include a number of different hazards that can individually cause significant impacts on life and property, such as storm surge, flooding, extreme winds, tornadoes and lighting.

Magical And Powerful Potions
Reading chapter one gives you directions for making charms and spells and talks about the colourful history of magic, starting from the mighty Atlanteans during the last great ice age 13,000 years ago, who perfectly mastered the wonderful craft and became very authentic sorcerers and magicians. Reading chapter eight gives you instructions for making the legendary philosopher's stone, a magical red crystal glowing in the dark that can be powdered and mixed together with a bottle of sweet red wine, miraculously granting drinkers of that supernatural shiraz a particular kind of immortality, plus rather famously changing ordinary grey lead into glittering yellow gold. Reading chapter thirteen gives you the most important component required for generating pure magical firepower which revolves completely around rivers of sparkling electricity. You will also discover stories about Merlin and castle knights from the misty enchanted kingdom of Great Britain. Stories about the devastatingly beautiful witch called Circe and her magical island from ancient Greek mythology. More information about Paracelsus and magnificent creatures like faeries, elves, dwarves, and goblins. More information about the tremendously mysterious and popular Rosicrucians who were positively great at practical magic and came from the sophisticated Shakespearean 1600's. Very old fashioned recipes for valentine love potions crafted from lizard orchid roots and marvellous merryweather potions crafted from million dollar saffron spice. Revolutionary secrets about levitation and making things quite literally float off the ground. From Ulster to America

release date: Apr 11, 2017
From Ulster to America
Over the last 350 years, Ireland has sent a stream of countless emigrants to North America. Estimates range from six to ten million. Each emigrant spoke English, Irish, or Ulster Scots, and many indeed used two or all three of these tongues. One of the most formative chapters in this fascinating story is the often-overlooked arrival of at least 150,000 from Ulster in the colonial era, specifically in the sixty years before the American Revolution. This book recounts the lasting impact they made on the development of the English language of the United States from the eighteenth century to the present day. It documents nearly four hundred terms and meanings, each with quotations from both sides of the Atlantic, that were contributed to American English by these eighteenth-century settlers from Ulster. It draws on letters they sent back to their homeland, other archival documents associated with their settlement, and local fiction and poetry; it shows that Ulster emigrants and their children, who settled mainly in the American interior, gave as much to regional American English as any other group from the Old World. Its pages contain many pleasant surprises: readers will find terms both instantly recognisable and ones that are unfamiliar. The numerous quotations not only bring alive the speech of earlier days on both sides of the Atlantic, but also extend our understanding of the culture, mannerisms and life of those pioneering times, while through their words, poignantly link the past with the present.
