About Michael Moss Biographical Info- He was born and raised in New London, Connecticut. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English at now defunct Windham College in Putney, Vermont, where he was mentored by the wrestling coach and author, John Irving. He began teaching in Florida and currently lives with his wife, Janette, in Henderson, Nevada. I met Janette in Fort Lauderdale in March of 1980... The purpose of this book is to provide the reader with a definition, history, and review of the literature on the subject of African American psychology and mental health, from an African centered perspective. The pioneers and practitioners of African/Black psychology and family therapy will be explored and examined. As a professor of psychology at an HBCU, I wanted to create a resource that would introduce the undergraduate reader to the much needed subject of African American and or Black psychology from an African centered perspective. This book is a critical analysis of the African American religious spiritual system from an African centered perspective. Critical analysis must begin from a frame of reference, or a context. This analysis will be centered and contextualized from an African worldview frame of reference.
