A Christmas Catastrophe!

release date: Mar 26, 2019
A Christmas Catastrophe!
Michelle was a very creative, artistic child. She would retreat to her room for hours to create. I would find all kinds of treasures in her trash can, and she would just shrug her shoulders! I realized early on that this was no ordinary talent and that Michelle had something extraordinary! The Christmas Catastrophe! was one of those finds. That year, Michelle was only ten years old, and she was so embarrassed when I sent copies of her work to the family in lieu of Christmas cards. A Christmas Catastrophe was recently resurrected while going through old cabinets and closets, and upon reading it, it again held my attention until the very end and brought a great smile to my face and warmth to my heart. I decided that the world could use a smile and some warmth, and as a gift to Michelle, to have it published for years to come and maybe even someday be read when she has children of her own! I love you, pretty girl! —Mom

The Cross, the Altar of Yahusha Emmanuel Our Risen Savior

release date: Apr 10, 2018
The Cross, the Altar of Yahusha Emmanuel Our Risen Savior
The Cross, The Altar of Yahusha our risen Savior is a modern day Messianic art book. This book is 60 pages, and has 48 images of published artwork by the author and artist Michelle K. Lawrence-Smith. The artwork show''s that when the altar of Messiah is tilted 33.33 degrees, it forms a perfect diamond, and also reveals to the observer how the trinity is present in the altar of Yahusha itself. These pictures of modern Messianic art are faith inducing, eye-catching, but most importantly show the oneness of God. These captivating images throughout the book The Cross, The Altar of Yahusha our risen Savior, are a refreshing, and a present day twist on the cross itself. The author & artist, Michelle K. Lawrence-Smith was born in Nashville, Tennessee on July 4,1971. This artbook was first published in April 2012.This is a revision. A second chance to esteem the holy NAMEof the Creator & His Son, Yahuah, and Yahusha- next to her art.Using her artistic talent to serve and Honor YAH-Elohimof Yahusha Emmanuel- Yehoshuah. The Creator of Heaven. The art originally inspired by a dream she had whilegoing to college in Alabama. In the dream, two men describing themselves as time-travelers(Chimney cleaners) showed her a picture they had drawn of an X,with a line through the center of itself. Then another linefrom the middle of the X down it''s middle. The published art work is contained in both versionsof this book, The Cross, The Altar of Yahusha Emmanuel our risen Savior. The X and cross pattern are replicated with additional lines added. Finished art. Angels from heaven? Time travelers? That is what Michelle believes. Would not angels have to travel very quickly to enter linear time? Yes. And going at that speed...is time travel. The art not only helped Michelle K. serve her purpose- to use her talents to serveEmmanuel-our risen Savior, but the simple pattern also led her to the true origins of Hisname and the correct ancient Hebrew transliteration of His name Yahusha. Now back into the loving arms of the Hebrew -Savior. Raised as a believer in the MachiachEmmanuel our risen Savior... along her prodical child, spiritual journey- she has discoveredthe powerful, secret ancient Hebrew name of the Messiah, and Father written in Paleo Hebrew. No longer hidden- the true name of power - is revealed, and esteemed above all names. Againrevealing the name the angel Gabriel gave to the virgin Mary--of her child--conceived by theHoly Spirit, the only Son of Yehovah. Yahusha. Mknls

Utilization of Nucleobase Pairing to Develop Supramolecular Polymers, Electron Transfer Systems, and Interaction with Biological Molecules

Utilization of Nucleobase Pairing to Develop Supramolecular Polymers, Electron Transfer Systems, and Interaction with Biological Molecules
Hydrogen bonding is seen extensively in Nature. It is manifest in DNA/RNA nucleic acid (nucleobase) pairing, the defining feature of the double helix, as well as in secondary structures in protein folding such as hairpin loops. This importance, thus coupled with the aesthetic appeal of nucleobase hydrogen-bonding interactions, has inspired us to design and synthesize new hydrogen-bonded assemblies that make use of Watson-Crick and Hoogsteen interactions. Currently, novel supramolecular architectures are being developed for the formation of supramolecular polymers via Watson-Crick hydrogen bonding of guanosine and cytidine. Supramolecular polymer formation occurs through hydrogen bonding, electronic interactions, and metal chelation, and allows for a highly thermodynamic system that can easily be broken and reformed through external stimuli. By synthesizing linear, metal-nucleobase, and functionalized guanosine entities, a variety of new "monomers" have been obtained. Their use in construction of main chain and side chain polymers, and G-quartet hydrogels are now being explored. The hydrogen bonding motifs used to develop supramolecular polymers are also attractive for developing through bond electron transfer systems. One inspiration for developing artificial donor-acceptor systems (i.e., linked through non-covalent interactions) comes from the light harvesting systems found in Nature. Triggered by a pulse of UV light, electron transfer across bridges, including charge separation and charge recombination processes can occur and the rates can be determined. As one part of this study, collaborators Igor Rubtsov and David Beratan studied how perturbing the vibrational modes of the bridge via IR pulse excitation, affected electron transfer. Mid-IR excitation of the donor-acceptor systems slowed the rate of electron transfer, likely because the molecular vibrations either disrupted the bridging hydrogen bonds or distorted the electronic interactions of the bridge. This observance could lend itself to the possibility of designing IR-controlled molecular switches and other devices Another mode of hydrogen bonding, Hoogsteen interactions, was explored in the context of developing a guanosine-quadruplex binder. Specifically, a pyrrole-based inosine was designed to direct hydrogen bonding via an extended Hoogsteen interaction in order to bind to quadruplex DNA. Quadruplex DNA has been studied as a folded form of DNA and, if stabilized, can inhibit gene replication especially amongst cancer strands. In summary, the candidate''s research efforts have focused on exploiting hydrogen bonding in nucleobases to construct novel supramolecular assemblies that could see eventual applications in materials chemistry, nanotechnology, and gene therapy.

The Use of Music in Early Childhood Centers in British Columbia

release date: Jan 01, 2009
The Use of Music in Early Childhood Centers in British Columbia
This study explored the current practices of early childhood educators'' utilization and perception about music in their classrooms. Early childhood educators are defined as individuals who have completed post-secondary training at an accredited college or university in early childhood education and are registered with the ECEBC Registry. Early childhood centers are defined as either preschools or licensed group child care centers. An online survey was designed to obtain information regarding demographics and characteristics of early childhood centers in British Columbia, relevant musical and educational training, comfort level of the early childhood educator leading group music activities, implementation of the role of music in the classroom, purposes for including music at early childhood centers and information related to early childhood educators'' perceptions about the effectiveness of music to teach non-musical concepts. Synthesis and thematic analysis of these results are presented with discussion related to the implications for further research and education.

Differences in Morphological Awareness Skills Between Children with Phonological Impairment and Children with Typical Development

Differences in Morphological Awareness Skills Between Children with Phonological Impairment and Children with Typical Development
ABSTRACT: Children with phonological impairment (PI) are at increased risk for reading and spelling difficulties. To date, research has focused primarily on the phonological awareness abilities of children with PI as means of examining factors that impact their literacy development. However, research in the area of morphological awareness indicates that it is an essential skill, beyond phonological awareness, necessary for the successful acquisition of reading and spelling. This study investigated the morphological awareness abilities of children with PI as little is known about their morphological awareness skills. By examining the morphological awareness of children with PI, a better understanding of factors that might place these students at risk for reading and spelling difficulties can be developed. Eighty-eight first grade students, 44 students with PI, or a history of PI, and 44 students with typical speech and language skills (TD), were recruited as participants. All participants completed an assessment battery designed to measure expressive phonology, morphological awareness, phonological awareness, letter-name knowledge, receptive vocabulary, reading, and spelling. Descriptive quantitative research methods were used to answer the study''s research questions. Specifically, independent samples t-tests were used to determine whether there were differences in morphological awareness abilities between students with PI and students with TD. Regression analyses were used to determine whether the morphological awareness of children with PI and children with typical development account for significant independent variance on measures of reading and spelling. Results from the t-tests suggested significant differences between children with TD and children with PI on all measures of morphological awareness. Regression analyses suggested morphological awareness predicted significant unique variance on the spelling measure for both groups as well as for reading for children with TD; morphological awareness did not significantly predict additional variance on the reading measure for children with PI. Results indicate that children with PI are significantly outperformed by typically developing peers on measures of morphological awareness. This gap in performance may help explain, to some extent, the differences in reading abilities between children with PI and children with TD.
