I am a draftsman, painter and printmaker. This first person statement is a written extension of the art that constitutes my thesis. It discusses the links between my work and the Enlightenment, Humanism, Catholicism, ethics and the Western canon as well as my use of perspective and other classical techniques in relation to history, language, high art, popular culture, propaganda, contemporary upheavals, Christian and Islamic Fundamentalism, globalization and the digital revolution. Furthermore, the main arguments draw upon my Cuban origin and European ancestry, the Cuban Revolution, my Belgian early education and eventual American hybrid identity. The overriding theme, however, concerns the continuing relevance of drawing, high art and history. As such, it forms a personal art theory and critique of contemporary culture. Supporting sources include history, art history, art theory, philosophy, science, religion and politics.

Resumen: Se determinó la condición antropométrica (talla, peso, porcentaje graso e índice de masa corporal), consumo máximo de oxigeno y su relación con la posición dentro del terreno de juego de 25 futbolistas profesionales del Deportivo Pereira en el 2003, con edades entre 18 y 38 años (media 25.5). Para el porcentaje graso se utilizó el protocolo de Yuhazs y para el consumo máximo de oxígeno el test de Legger. La estatura promedio fue de 1.73 m, el peso corporal total promedio de 71.7 Kg, porcentaje graso promedio de 7.5%, el índice de masa corporal promedio de 23.4 y el VO2-máximo osciló entre 50 y 69 ml/kg/min, con un promedio de 59.9 ml/kg/min. La correlación con la posición dentro del campo, mostró que los centrales poseen un mayor peso corporal (78 Kg), seguido por los arqueros con 73.3 Kg, además poseen una mayor estatura promedio 1.83 m, seguidos por los arqueros con 1.81 m. Los arqueros poseen un mayor porcentaje graso con un promedio de 8%, seguido por los centrales con 7.75%; y los volantes poseen un mayor VO2-máximo 63.7 ml/kg/min, seguido por los defensas con 63 ml/kg/min. Estos datos son importantes para la planificación del entrenamiento, especialmente para el manejo y control de la dinámica de la carga de esfuerzo.

The increasing number of patients that have coronary artery bypass grafting surgery (CABG) and that require another intervention later on, creates the need of alternative interventional procedurs. The reason is that reintervention implies more risk of morbility. Therefore, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), emerge as a safe procedure when a revascularized patient shows evidence of bypass grafting oclusion or progression of artheriosclerotic disease in native vessels. To assess the efficacy and safety of PTCA in our institution, a descriptive retrospective study was designed. Between January 1990 and July 1994, 162 revascularized patients that were undergoing PTCA, but only 136 were elegible to be included as the study group because they had follow-up. Most of the 136 patients were men (82.4 per cent), had history of myocardial infarction (61.0 per cent), and complained of resting angina (42.6 per cent); they shared many cardiovascular risk factors among dyslipidemia, hypertension, cigarrette-smoking, etc. Despite the time between surgery and PTCA ranged from months to 14 years, most patients were located in the 6-10 years group.In the 136 patients, a total of 803 vessels were analyzed: 333 grafts 470 native vessels. PTCA was only performed in 157 native vessels and 68 grafts, procedure which was successful in 86.6 per cent and 85.3 per cent of the cases, respectively, with statistical significance between the quality of blood flux pre and post angioplasty (p=0.01 in grafts and p=0.001 in native vessels). In the native vessel group, 10 years between surgery and the PTCA, more than one lesion.
