Don Quixote, by Miguel Cervantes, is the first European novel. It is Cervantes best work. It is the classic adventure of an eccentric the "renowned Don Quixote de la Mancha." He attacks windmills, believes a peasant girl to be a lady, and fancies that he is a knight-errant, dedicated to righting wrongs and rescuing damsels in distress. Entertaining!

A play by the author of Don Quixote. The folk hero Pedro de Urdemalas, known in Spanish balladry and tradition - from mediaeval times to Lorca - as a swindling trickster with a thousand costume and identity changes up his sleeve, is here dramatised by Cervantes. It''s a delightful if somewhat sprawling tale of Pedro''s life''s journey.

In addition to Don Quixote, the most popular work of Cervantes is undoubtedly his Exemplary Novels, and of these Rinconete and Cortadillo is the most delightful. This little masterpiece gives perhaps the best sketch of Spanish low-life that has come down to us. The translation is a new one by a Spanish Don now resident in the United States, with a preface by the English essayist, R B Cunnunghame Graham. It also contains Cervantes'' own preface, Prologue to the Exemplary Novels.
