Essential Operational Planning

release date: May 04, 2021
Essential Operational Planning
Essential Operational Planning - Policing a difficult world Planning Police, Close Protection, Emergency Firearms and Public Order Operations. A User''s Guide -''It takes an awful lot of hard police work to make nothing happen''. This publication is intended to provide operational commanders and planning teams with guidance based upon real life experience in the management of Close Protection Emergency, Firearms and Public Order Operations. All of these lessons learned were acquired in an environment where terrorists (of rival factions) constantly sought to exploit any weakness in procedures and take life. The book is deliberately short, it is an aide memoire, a field manual for those charged with the safety of Principals, the public, officers and employees in a dangerous world. Both pre-planned and spontaneous operations will be covered. They have similarities but they are not the same and as such bring their own challenges The importance of ''constant readiness'' and creating effective teams. Such teams should consider perfection to be normality in their operations and who employ a sense of ''professional paranoia'' in their planning. In this book we will show the reader how to: Manage intelligence Maintain operational security Carry out effect decision making in advance and during operations. This will also cover risk analysis Effect briefing Create effective command and control Maintain community policing (and as a consequence community support) Respond to the media Maintain audits regarding actions taken. We have sought to provide examples of how these concepts have been applied in real scenarios. The real operations that will be discussed include: Deceiving criminal and terrorist operators and maintaining operational security Building effective teams in a crisis and introducing innovation A spontaneous response to an aircraft emergency Working with Senior Command and International Agencies in an African State to prevent significant civil disorder Carrying out high profile search operations in an area where community tensions are high - but maintaining liaison with communities without compromising operational security. We hope you enjoy this publication and that it is useful. That was the intention when we authored it. If you wish to improve the professionalism of your operations then this is the publication for you. Looking back on our careers, we would both say, ''It wasn''t easy but it was worth it''.

Canine Hearing Management

release date: Jan 01, 2020
Canine Hearing Management
The United States military employs multipurpose canines as force multipliers. A newly developed baseline audiology program applicable to noise effects on the hearing threshold for these dogs has just been developed by the University of Cincinnati FETCHLAB using brainstem auditory evoked potentials to detect estimated threshold shifts in this population. Dogs that are routinely deployed are subject to consistent exposure to noise in the field. Few investigations have focused on the effects of transport noise on the auditory system in multipurpose dogs. The consequence of these dogs having a significant hearing threshold shift is a failure of the dog to properly respond to voice commands and to miss critical acoustic cues while on target. This chapter specifically discusses the baseline protocol for audiological testing of special operations,Äô multipurpose canines related to helicopter transport.

Goddess as Nature

release date: Apr 15, 2016
Goddess as Nature
Goddess as Nature makes a significant contribution to elucidating the meaning of a female and feminist deity at the beginning of the twenty-first century. Bridging the gap between the emergent religious discourse of thealogy - discourse about the Goddess - and a range of analytical concerns in the philosophy of religion, the author argues that thealogy is not as incoherent as many of its critics claim. By developing a close reading of the reality-claims embedded within a range of thealogical texts, one can discern an ecological and pantheistic concept of deity and reality that is metaphysically novel and in need of constructive philosophical, thealogical and scholarly engagement. Philosophical thealogy is, in an age concerned with re-conceiving nature in terms of agency, chaos, complexity, ecological networks and organicism, both an active possibility and a remarkably valuable academic, feminist and religious endeavour.

120 Bricks

release date: Feb 24, 2014
120 Bricks
Coach Paul Reid set out to write a memoir for his fellow high school football coaches and the athletes he had coached over the years, but the resulting book contains life lessons of value to anyone who works with or cares about young people and the formation of their character. There is something here of value for educators, parents of players, and hometown fans, as well as those who coach young men and women in any team or individual sport. From the perspective of 34 years at various levels of the coaching profession, Reid shares intimate personal experiences of leadership on and off the field. He offers a rare insider look at what happens in the locker room between games; the drama and challenges of creating discipline and teamwork; the often unintended consequences of parental involvement; the often perplexing examples of fan behavior, and the delicate balance between academics and athletics. Unlike many of the books written by former coaches, Reid does not just talk about success stories and the pinnacles of glory, but also describes the difficult moments when real learning, growth and insights take place. He also describes his own personal odyssey from a win at all costs mentality to a paradigm shift towards a systemic approach that balances personal development and preparation for life. He seasons this message with candid observations about growing up in a small town; the nature of true friendships, and the philosophy of competition and rivalry. Some of the stories in this book will make you shake your head, others may bring a tear or a laugh. But, whether you are a budding football coach, the parent of a player, or a true believer in your hometown team, you will come away with a deeper insight of what high school football is really all aboutor should be.

The Beethoven Song Companion

release date: Nov 15, 2010
The Beethoven Song Companion
This is the first full-length, published study of Beethoven’s songs. All the composer’s songs with piano are included, with full German texts and translations, together with comprehensive notes on the poetry and the music. The inclusion of unfinished songs gives a fascinating insight into Beethoven’s compositional methods. An introductory essay considers reasons for the relative neglect of the songs, the significance of Beethoven’s choice of texts, his crucial role in the development of German art-song and specific aspects such as choice of key. Throughout the book, poetic and musical texts are discussed in their historical context, and in the overall context of Beethoven’s life and music. It is anticipated that this book, like its predecessor The Schubert Song Companion, will encourage the performance and study of an important but comparatively neglected aspect of the work of the world’s most celebrated composer.
