Con sus relatos construidos palabra a palabra, intensos como un poema, Raymond Carver, fallecido en 1988, había ya ingresado en ese parnaso donde la obra de un escritor está completa, y no tendrá otra modificación que las introducidas por las diferentes lecturas que de ella se hagan en el curso del tiempo. Al parecer, todo lo que importaba había sido ya publicado. Pero ahora, años después de su muerte, Tess Gallagher, la viuda de Carver, escritora y poeta, ha encontrado y editado cinco relatos que, como afirma Publishers Weekly, serán para la legión de admiradores del escritor «como un alijo de diamantes descubiertos en una mina abandonada». En poco más de diez años de intenso trabajo literario, los que van desde que dejó atrás el alcoholismo hasta su temprana muerte, Raymond Carver forjó una obra de primerísima magnitud.
