Auch wenn man die Schlussfolgerungen des Autors nicht teilen mag, so bietet Der Gotteswahn doch einen, wenn auch sehr subjektiven Überblick der Genese der „Gotteshypothese, der gängigen Argumente für und wider die Existenz Gottes sowie der Wurzeln von Moral und Religion. Auch Dawkins Entwicklung seiner Hypothese, dass Religiosität nichts weiter als der Ausdruck einer -- was freilich zu denken geben sollte, mehr als massenhaft vorkommenden und ergo wohl anthropologisch einigermaßen konstanten -- psychischen Dysfunktion sei, lohnt nachvollzogen zu werden (und sei es auch nur, um sie für sich zu widerlegen). Über die Existenz oder Nichtexistenz Gottes freilich ist damit immer noch nichts Abschließendes gesagt. Aber das war ja auch nicht zu erwarten.
