Occhi nello spazio (Urania)

release date: Jul 05, 2017
Occhi nello spazio (Urania)

Quantum Night
LONGLISTED FOR CANADA READS 2017 2017 AURORA AWARD FOR BEST NOVEL Robert J. Sawyer has proven himself to be "a writer of boundless confidence and bold scientific extrapolation" (The New York Times). Now, the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author explores the thin line between good and evil that every human being is capable of crossing... Experimental psychologist Jim Marchuk has developed a flawless technique for identifying the previously undetected psychopaths lurking everywhere in society. But while being cross-examined about his breakthrough in court, Jim is shocked to discover that he has lost his memories of six months of his life from twenty years previously--a dark time during which he himself committed heinous acts. Jim is reunited with Kayla Huron, his forgotten girlfriend from his lost period and now a quantum physicist who has made a stunning discovery about the nature of human consciousness. As a rising tide of violence and hate sweeps across the globe, the psychologist and the physicist combine forces in a race against time to see if they can do the impossible--change human nature--before the entire world descends into darkness.

Foreigner
In Far-Seer and Fossil Hunter, we met the Quintaglios, a race of intelligent dinosaurs (evolved descendants of dinosaurs rescued in prehistory from Earth), and learned of the threat to their very existence. Now they must quickly advance from a culture equivalent to our Renaissance to the point where they can leave their planet. While the Quintaglios rush to develop space travel, the discovery of a second species of intelligent dinosaurs rocks their most fundamental beliefs. Meanwhile, blind Afsan--the Quintaglio Galileo--undergoes the newfangled treatment of psychoanalysis, throwing everything he thought he knew about his violent people into a startling new light. This special Kobo edition includes the bonus short story Forever. "Sawyer deserves a round of vigorous applause."--Tom Easton in Analog "Deftly combines well-reasoned hard-science speculation with psychology, imaginative alien anthropology, and even linguistics to produce a fascinating and memorable adventure that's not just for dinosaur lovers."--Booklist "Fresh; exhilarating. A rousing conclusion to a dynamic and inspiring trilogy. Highly recommended."--The Toronto Star "The characters are compelling. A fine end to a brilliant series, one that should vault Sawyer into the first rank of science fiction writers."--Quill & Quire: Canada's Magazine of Book News and Reviews ROBERT J. SAWYER has won the Hugo, Nebula, John W. Campbell Memorial, Seiun, and Aurora Awards, all for best science fiction novel of the year.

Wrestling With Gods

release date: Feb 26, 2015
Wrestling With Gods
A mechanical Jesus for your shrine, the myths of cuttlefish, a vampire in residential schools, a Muslim woman who wants to get closer, surgically, to her god, the demons of outer space, the downside of Nirvana. The 24 science fiction and fantasy stories and poems included in Wrestling with Gods (Tesseracts Eighteen) take their faith and religion into the future, into the weird and comic and thought-provoking spaces where science fiction and fantasy has really always gone, struggling with higher powers, gods, the limits of technology, the limits of spiritual experience. At times profound, these speculative offerings give readers a chance to see faith from the believer and the skeptic in worlds where what you believe is a matter of life, death, and afterlife. Featuring works by: Derwin Mak, Robert J. Sawyer, Tony Pi, S. L. Nickerson, Janet K. Kifürkészhetetlen
Amikor egy idegen civilizáció küldötte érkezik a Földre, úti céljául a torontói Royal Ontario Museumot választja. A múzeum egyik munkatársával, Thomas Jerichóval lép kapcsolatba, aki meglepődve veszi tudomásul, hogy Hollus, a pókszerű lény bolygónk történelmét jött tanulmányozni, párhuzamokat keresve más civilizációk sorsával.

Mikeys
Mindscan
Hugo Award-winning author Robert J. Sawyer is back with Mindscan, a pulse-pounding, mind-expanding standalone novel, rich with his signature philosophical and ethical speculations, all grounded in cutting-edge science. Jake Sullivan has cheated death: he's discarded his doomed biological body and copied his consciousness into an android form. The new Jake soon finds love, something that eluded him when he was encased in flesh: he falls for the android version of Karen, a woman rediscovering all the joys of life now that she's no longer constrained by a worn-out body either. But suddenly Karen's son sues her, claiming that by uploading into an immortal body, she has done him out of his inheritance. Even worse, the original version of Jake, consigned to die on the far side of the moon, has taken hostages there, demanding the return of his rights of personhood. In the courtroom and on the lunar surface, the future of uploaded humanity hangs in the balance. Mindscan is vintage Sawyer -- a feast for the mind and the heart. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.
