But he''s sure as hell not going quietly ... Former policeman Ray ''Sugar'' Leonard is no stranger to bad breaks. But even Walter White never had to open up and share his feelings with a bunch of misfits like Ray''s chemotherapy group: a giant God-bothering Welsh bouncer, a sharp-suited wannabe Wolf of Wall Street, and a misanthropic, potty-mouthed little old lady. Compared to that lot, getting mugged on his way home from the clinic was almost a relief. But Ray is not your average victim. Lifecycle of Nations

release date: Feb 22, 2026
Lifecycle of Nations
In a world fractured by tariff wars, rising protectionism, and geopolitical rivalry, Steve Jones offers something different: a structured framework for understanding how economies truly evolve, and how nations can grow together rather than apart. In The Lifecycle of Nations, Jones introduces a five-stage Maturity Model for Economies and Markets, from nascent, resource-dependent nations to post-industrial, innovation-led consumer economies. Drawing on economic history, modern case studies, and the defining lessons of the 20th century, he argues that countries do not rise randomly. They progress through identifiable stages, each with distinct pressures, trade dynamics, and strategic responsibilities. Readers will see how collaborative trade built prosperity after World War II, and how protectionism repeatedly undermines it. From Adam Smith and David Ricardo to the repeal of the Corn Laws, from the Smoot-Hawley Tariff to President Reagan''s warnings against trade wars, history provides unmistakable evidence: nations prosper most when they specialize, exchange, and respect comparative advantage. Through case studies of China, the United States, Germany, India, Vietnam and others, Jones maps where countries sit today, and why the language of "reciprocal tariffs" must give way to a deeper understanding of "reciprocal needs." More than theory, this book serves as a diagnostic tool for policymakers, investors, business leaders, scholars, and engaged citizens seeking clarity in a fractured, multi-nodal global order. The global economy functions best not when nations compete to win alone, but when they recognize that prosperity is shared. The Lifecycle of Nations is both a map and a mirror for the 21st century. BONUS Readers also receive access to a complimentary mini-book, Churchill''s Leadership Lessons from American Presidents, distilling five timeless principles Churchill drew from Washington, Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Truman - leadership insights that shaped Allied victory, built the post-war world order and remain urgently relevant today.

Stand Your Ground

release date: Apr 18, 2014
Stand Your Ground
What does the Bible say about the right to self-defense? While the 2nd amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects the right of individuals to keep and bear arms, Christians are guided by a higher law - the law of God. The Bible is certainly not silent on this subject. "Stand Your Ground" lays out the foundation for self-defense found in the Old Testament, the New Testament and the example of Jesus in a concise, yet thorough manner. At the same time, common objections to Christian self-defense are considered and overcome.

ACT Made Yorkshire
From the back... Nah then! Sometimes unwanted thoughts, feelings and "stuff" can get in the way of what we want. This book will try to get you closer to where you want to be and move you beyond your "stuff". How can we do this? This book takes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and filters it down through the Yorkshire bedrock. We will use familiar examples and what I hope is a dollop of grounded humour to get you where you want to go. So, let''s ger on wi it" Reviews Dr Ray Own - Author of Facing the Storm and Living with the Enemy "Since the first one was published 21 years ago, there have been many books on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. There''s never been one like this, though! As well as being thorough, clear and well-rooted in the evidence, Dr Jones brings his sense of humour, and a love of his Useful, fun and well worth a read - and that''s coming from a Lancastrian!" Dr Nic Hooper - Author of The Unbreakable Student "Often in books like these, the human being behind the words does not show themselves. That is not the case with this book where the author writes in an entertaining, humorous and authentic tone. I think it''s a good place to start for people that aren''t after traditional self-help but who do want to start thinking about how to thrive" A bit more about the book... ACT Made Yorkshire is written by myself Dr Steve Jones. I am a Clinical Psychologist who works in England. I have grown up, studied and am now work in Sheffield. Sheffield, and more broadly Yorkshire is my home. I am fiercely proud of where I have grown up and wanted to write something in a style that would have hit the mark with me. The aim of this book is to take mental wellbeing, something that can often be seen as "other" or "indulgent", and to make it more useful for more people. There are metaphors and stories about a rat in a wheat mill, a trip to the bookies, a football terrace and several trips to the pub but to name a few. I hope that these strike a chord with you. There are also a lot of opportunities to get stuck in and give things a go. It''s ok me waffling on in the book, but sometimes the proof is in the experiencing. I have also made recordings which are explained in the book, apologies that it is just my voice and no one more exciting, but hopefully these exercises add some character to the scripts which are written in the pages.. Listen to Introduction - ACT Made Yorkshire by ACT Made Yorkshire on #SoundCloud https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/YVAgB As the book mentions, it is not a replacement for more formal therapy or psychological intervention and is intended for use with less severe mental health difficulties. If you require additional support then please consult your doctor or local support systems. Please look after yourself. If you are a mental health professional and reading some of the reimagined metaphors and exercises then I hope that you find them useful. If you do then that is wonderful. Please feel free to take anything you find in here and adapt it for your own practice. I have always wanted to write a book and this is me putting my money where my mouth is. There is an element of practicing what I preach in stopping to notice all of the thoughts and feelings that have tried to get in the way of this book being made. To notice these thoughts and to take deliberate and sustained action in accordance with what is important to me. Therefore I hope that ACT Made Yorkshire embodies all of the things I talk about in the book.
