61 for 1

release date: May 16, 2024
61 for 1
This definitive and expertly researched work chronicles the careers and life stories of 61 Worcestershire cricketers who played just a single game of Championship cricket for the county. The breadth and depth of material not only provides the career details of each player, which you would expect to see in such a publication, it reaches way beyond that. It includes at least one photograph of each player, and in several instances, details of births, deaths, schools, universities attended and chosen careers; have been included or corrected based on new information which has come to light. Coupled to that, it provides a fascinating insight into the lives of players and dovetails as a social history of the last 120 years. Due to this research, and because of the thorough work undertaken by the author, the identity of two players has been changed completely. It has; therefore, necessitated the re-writing of existing and hitherto definitive, established cricket records. While many of the players may not be household names, the book celebrates their remarkable lives and careers away from the cricket field, because each has a unique story to tell. Included are great Test cricketers, stalwarts of league cricket and those who excelled in their own professions or served their community and country with dignity. Whether at other sports, within education, business and commerce or during times of conflict - the latter tinged with sadness that two of the players paid the ultimate sacrifice - they all helped to forge a unique place in Worcestershire''s cricketing history.

Don't Make Me Do Something We'll Both Regret

release date: Apr 05, 2023
Don't Make Me Do Something We'll Both Regret
The stories in Don''t Make Me Do Something We''ll Both Regret are linked by their exploration of queer evil. The mystery of desire and sting of rejection drive a child to violence. Boys enter the forest, naive to what lurks within. A pack of pop stars-turned-lovers strike a terrible bargain to preserve their youth. Its characters are gnostics and mystics, ogres and queens whose defiance of the normative both liberates and confines. Innovative Prose ... from “Tim Jones-Yelvington is a Pretty Little Liar” My lovelies, I haven’t forgotten your secrets. Everything each of you told me in confidence. You said, Promise you’ll keep this to yourself. You said, Promise you’ll never tell a soul. You said, If anyone finds out, my life is over! I said, I’ll take it to the grave. Once, I came upon our frienemy in the marketplace. I said, I know what you’ve been up to! Don’t pretend your hemline’s clean! And she begged me, Keep your voice down! Don’t make me do something we’ll both regret. This is the new new me. Black feathered collar, black feathered cuffs, gold-threaded jacket, my shoulder plumage spills. I am a peacock. My chin is cocked. I am a libertine. I am a dandy. I am an emu, ready to stretch my neck. To sharpen my beak.

Mentors and Tormentors

release date: Dec 15, 2022
Mentors and Tormentors
Don''t be fooled. At first glance, he is just another middle-class fourteen-year-old. But on closer inspection, Wendall is so much more. He''s naive, sheltered, and insecure. Fortunately, he discovers a cure for his youthful shortcomings. He cannot control his curiosity. No matter how embarrassing, Wendall must know why people think, feel, say, and do sometimes-crazy things. During a span of four inquisitive years, his view of the world is transformed by a colorful cast of small-town characters. Some are mentors; others are tormentors. However, each is a specialist who thoroughly comprehends a specific facet of human nature: happiness, manipulation, and saying no, to list only a few. But Wendall isn''t just a passive student. He gets his hands dirty when his father transplants the family to a rundown farm. Our nosey hero then battles a sadistic psychopath, gets cheated by a con man, and talks a best friend back from a botched suicide attempt. Mentors and Tormentors is not another predictable, coming-of-age story. It is an instruction manual detailing how to handle yourself and other people. Wendall''s adventures add some fun and entertainment, which balance and reinforce the seriousness of the lessons. Think of this book as a collection of modern fables with each chapter having a specific, applicable message. But unlike Aesop''s fables, these truths don''t stand alone. They coalesce and reveal the secret to enjoying life with complete peace of mind. Mentors and Tormentors is Tim Jones''s first literary work. The lessons and characters are loosely based on his own experiences and those of thousands of emergency room patients. Dr. Jones''s thirty years of experiencing their humanity have made him uniquely qualified to write this book. His objective is to make readers laugh and learn. Laugh at Wendall''s missteps and learn his lessons the easy way. To learn more visit www.mentorsandtormentors.com

SAS Zero Hour

release date: Oct 30, 2017
SAS Zero Hour
The historian and author of Postwar Counterinsurgency and the SAS reveals the full story of how the Special Air Service Regiment began during WWII. Britain’s elite Special Air Service Regiment is one of the most revered special-ops units in the world. Its high-profile operations include the storming of the Iranian Embassy in London in 1980 and the hunt for Osama bin Laden in southern Afghanistan following 9/11. Since its inception during the Second World War, the SAS has become a byword for the highest possible standards in both conventional and unorthodox methods of warfare. In SAS Zero Hour, military historian and SAS expert Tim Jones offers fascinating new insight into how this elite regiment began. It is commonly held that the unit was the brainchild of just one man, David Stirling. While not dismissing Stirling’s considerable contribution, Jones’s historical investigation reveals many other factors that played a part in shaping the SAS, including the roles of military deception specialist Dudley Clarke, Field Marshals Archibald Wavell and Claude Auchinleck, and others. Drawing extensively on primary sources, as well as reassessing the more recent regimental histories and memoirs, SAS Zero Hour is “The most comprehensive and enlightening version of these seminal events yet” (Sir Ranulph Fiennes, from the Forward).

Dominatrixes and fetishists, face paint and goo, fierce parental love and perverse longings cohabitate in Evan''s House and the Other Boys Who Live There by Tim Jones-Yelvington. Leukemia, meteorites, Wal-Mart, bocce ball, Charlie Brown''s clinical depression, the language of talking crows and of Che Guevara''s omelets fill the eggs in How Some People Like Their Eggs by Sean Lovelace. And smallstories about pretty girls who sit quietly and behave themselves (or not) populate the pages of Paper and Tassels by Mary Miller.
