DYAD is a collaboration between a poet and a graphic artist. In its thirty-two image-poems, linear reading expands into spatial exploration, so that each piece is both a poem and a work of visual art. More than a text or script, other than a mere series or set of segments of alphabetic writing, each image-poem turns, rather, into an intricate artefact with a plasticity of its own, and its own implicit depths, potential undercurrents and explicitly actualised surfaces. An image-field is created, among whose patterns meanings and forms interact - and play.

The paper undertakes to review the history of the US Army ROTC Program, to describe the present status of ROTC in the colleges and universities and to submit a proposal for a revised program which will preserve this valuable source of junior officers. Owing to the importance of continuing the ROTC Program, it is suggested that the present Two Year Program be modified as the basis for a new system to train officers on the campus. The four year program would eventually be discontinued except at military colleges. The recommended program is designed to produce better trained officers upon graduation. (Modified author abstract).
