Many of the pieces have been revised and new ones have been added. Each book was recorded with a different instrument although Trumpet Ballads and Waltzes and Trumpet Partitas were both recorded with a cornet. However, a different mouthpiece was used for each of those two recordings, thus giving each a slightly different sound. Both the instrument and the mouthpiece used are noted on the title page of each section. Most of the selections are aimed at developing tone and lyricism on the trumpet. However, Trumpet Partitas definitely addresses technical issues. There is a wealth of music in this collection, and it will add much to trumpet practice and performance repertoire. The arts flourished in the Baroque period. Music from that time is still performed worldwide by symphonies, opera companies, choirs, chamber ensembles and soloists on many instruments. The period was characterized by the works of such great artists as J. S. Bach (b. 1685), Handel (b. 1685), Telemann (b. 1681) and many others.
