In this booklet taken from Life-study of Luke, Witness Lee considers Luke 8:1-21. “In 8:1-21 three matters are covered: the Man-Savior being ministered to by women (vv. 1-3), the Man-Savior teaching with parables (vv. 4-18), and the Man-Savior identifying His real relatives (vv. 19-21). If we consider 7:36—8:21 as a unit, we shall see that as those who have had their sins forgiven, we should follow the Lord, minister to Him, grow in life, and shine as lamps. Eventually, as such ones, we become the genuine relatives of the Man-Savior.”

The church should help the brothers and sisters in the way of visiting people to preach the gospel to save sinners, nourishing and taking care of the new believers, and teaching and perfecting them so that all can prophesy and speak for the Lord. When the church does this, sinners will be saved, believers will grow, saints will be perfected, and all will prophesy one by one. Then the church will be flourishing and the testimony will be strong.

In leading the young people, there are two indispensable aspects: spiritual knowledge and spiritual life. The spiritual content we impart into our young people must be related to both aspects, and we should not lean too much toward one or the other; we must be balanced. According to God’s law in the universe, everything is balanced. Thus, in our service with the young brothers and sisters, we should keep the principle of being balanced; we should give the young people knowledge and life in such a way that these aspects interact with each other.

At the same time, it provides a limited review of the Thanksgiving weekend conference held in Charlotte, North Carolina, November 22-25, 2018. The general subject of the conference was “The Reality of the Body of Christ.” Through intimate contact with the Lord in His word, the believers can be constituted with life and truth and thereby equipped to prophesy in the meetings of the church unto the building up of the Body of Christ.

Throughout the centuries of church history the Lord has progressively carried out His work of recovery. In this book, Witness Lee shows that the Lord''s present advance is to recover the priesthood of the gospel, the organic building up of the Body of Christ, the perfecting of the believers, and the speaking of God''s word for the building of the Body of Christ. He concludes with help as to how we can practice these four matters.

Although the kingdom occupies a very crucial position in the Bible, many Christians have not understood it properly, accurately, or adequately. The messages in this book, given in a conference in 1972 in Los Angeles, present mainly the life side of the kingdom. While some chapters touch the doctrinal and objective side, the primary burden is the life side. May these chapters cause the Lord''s children to soberly consider their responsibility toward the kingdom and to aspire to live today in the reality of the kingdom by the divine life so that they may enter into the enjoyment of the kingdom in its manifestation with the Lord in the coming age.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1932-1949, volume 2, contains personal notes and messages given by Brother Witness Lee in 1936 through 1949. The contents of this volume are divided into five sections, as follows: 1. A collection of message outlines, personal notes, and diaries written in 1936 through 1949. They are included in this volume under the title Witness Lee''s Personal Notes and Diaries. 2. Five articles written in 1947. These articles were published in the periodical Words of Grace and are included in this volume under the same title. 3. Sixty-two messages given in 1947 and 1948 during the resumption of Watchmen Nee''s ministry. These messages were previously published together with messages given by Watchman Nee in a book entitled Messages Given during the Resumption of Watchman Nee''s Ministry. The messages given by Witness Lee are included in this volume under the title Speakings Given during the Resumption of Watchman Nee''s Ministry. 4. Seven articles that were published in the periodical entitled The Way from August 1 through October 1, 1948. These articles are included in this volume under the same title. 5. Five articles published in the periodical The Ministers in July through November 1948. These articles were previously published in The Collected Works of Watchman Nee, volume 55, and are included in this volume under the same title.

According to the Bible our experience of Christ as life is both progressive and practical. In our experience, we must progress from being in Christ to abiding in Christ, and from Christ abiding in us to ultimately being full grown in Christ. In The Experience of Life, Witness Lee presents these and many more practical principles to guide our spiritual growth and development along the proper path to knowing Christ in a deeper and fuller way.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1965, volume 1, contains messages and fellowship given by Brother Witness Lee primarily from January through July 1965. A portion of this volume contains messages given in December 1963 and in March 1966. During the period from January through July, 1965, Brother Lee traveled extensively. In mid-February through mid-March he visited cities in Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Ohio. From the middle to the end of April he visited Mount Vernon, Missouri, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. At the end of May he traveled to South Carolina and Florida and then went on to Brazil, Peru, and Panama before returning to Los Angeles at the end of June. He also visited Sacramento, California, in mid-July and may have visited the Pacific Northwest. Regrettably, there is no record of his speaking in any of these places. At the end of July he held a weekend conference in San Francisco. The contents of this volume are divided into eleven sections, as follows: 1. Four messages given in Los Angeles, California, from January 12 through May 25. These messages are included in this volume under the title Exercising Our Gifts to Build Up the Body. 2. Fourteen messages given in Los Angeles, California, the first nine of which were given from January 23 through May 29, and the remaining five of which were given on March 15 through 24, 1966. These messages were previously published under the title The Vision, Practice, and Building Up of the Church as the Body of Christ. 3. Fourteen messages given in Los Angeles, California, from January 31 through May 18, 1965. These messages have been previously published under the title Preaching the Gospel in the Way of Life. The published book contained thirteen chapters. However, during research for The Collected Works, an additional message was discovered. This message is included in this volume as the first chapter. 4. Four messages given in Los Angeles, California, on April 9 through 11. These messages have been previously published under the title The Experience of Christ in Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians. 5. Six messages given in Los Angeles, California, from January 15 through April 2. These messages are included in this volume under the title Study on Hebrews. 6. Three messages given in Los Angeles, California, on May 7 through 21. These messages are published in this volume under the title Notes on 1 Timothy. 7. Two messages given in Los Angeles, California, on July 2 and 9. These messages are included in this volume under the title Study on Titus. 8. Four messages given in San Francisco, California, on July 23 through 25. One of the messages was spoken in Chinese and translated simultaneously into English. The English translation was edited for inclusion in this section. The messages given in this conference are included in this volume under the title Summer Conference in San Francisco. 9. One message that first appeared as an article in volume 3, number 1 of The Stream magazine in May 1965. The date and place of the original spoken message are uncertain. This message was previously published under the title The Baptism in the Holy Spirit. 10. One message that was first published as an article in volume 4, number 2 of The Stream magazine in May 1966. There is some evidence that it was spoken in Los Angeles, California, in the summer of 1965. The original article was later revised and published as a booklet entitled The Vision of the Church in 1968. This booklet is included in this volume under the same title. 11. Two messages given in Los Angeles, California, on December 24 and 26, 1963. The two messages were published in 1994 as chapters 4 and 6 of The Life and Way for the Practice of the Church Life, which is included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1963, volume 4. They first appeared in May 1965 in a slightly different form as a two-part article entitled The All-inclusive Spirit of Christ in volume 3, number 1 of The Stream magazine. The original article was later revised and printed as a booklet under the same title in 1969. This booklet, including the four diagrams that do not appear elsewhere, is included in this volume under the same title.

According to the available records, Brother Witness Lee ministered in the Philippines until near the end of January 1957. After Brother Lee returned to Taipei, Taiwan, Brother T. Austin-Sparks visited Taiwan in February for the second time (his first visit was in 1955). After visiting Taiwan, Austin-Sparks went to Hong Kong in March for a short visit. Brother Lee accompanied him during the entire time. The result of these visits caused much confusion concerning the practice of the church, in particular concerning the truth of the ground of the church. After Austin-Sparks left the Far East, Brother Lee spent about six months in Taiwan, where he conducted conferences and trainings on the truth concerning the church. Near the end of September he went to the Philippines and spent about a month there. At the end of October he traveled to Hong Kong again and stayed until the end of December, conducting various conferences and fellowships, many of which were to clarify the confusion concerning the truth of the church. In January 1958 he again visited the Philippines and remained there about a month before returning to Taipei via Hong Kong. In the 1957 set, volume 1 comprises Brother Lee''s messages and personal notes given during his travels in Taiwan and throughout Southeast Asia, including fellowship and messages given during the visit of T. Austin-Sparks to Taiwan and Hong Kong in February and March. Volume 2 continues with Brother Lee''s speaking in Taiwan on topics related to the church. Volume 3 is composed of his speaking in Manila, Philippines, and in Hong Kong from the end of September through December. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1957, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee in January 1957 through January 1958. Historical information concerning Brother Lee''s travels and the content of his ministry in 1957 can be found in the general preface that appears at the beginning of this volume. In this booklet taken from Life-study of Luke, Witness Lee presents the Lord Jesus’ teaching about salvation and reward in Luke 14. Verses 15-24 show us that salvation is free; we simply need to answer God’s invitation and receive what He offers us, and we will be saved. However, after we are saved, we need to enter into the coming kingdom to receive a reward. This is seen in verses 25-35. “To be saved by grace is one thing, and to be rewarded according to our following of the Lord is another thing.”

Every human being is a self, and self-likeness is the expression of that self. Self-likeness, the expression of the self, is not the expression of Christ. The expression of Christ comes only out of the life of Christ. In this booklet compiled from Life-study of Romans, Witness Lee fellowships concerning our need to be saved in the life of Christ from self-likeness and be conformed to the image of the Son of God.

In the Lord’s recovery during the past five hundred years the church’s knowledge of the Lord and His truth has been continually progressing. This monumental and classical work by Brother Witness Lee builds upon and is a further development of all that the Lord has revealed to His church in the past centuries. It is filled with the revelation concerning the processed Triune God, the living Christ, the life-giving Spirit, the experience of life, and the definition and practice of the church. In this set Brother Lee has kept three basic principles that should rule and govern every believer in their interpretation, development, and expounding of the truths contained in the Scriptures. The first principle is that of the Triune God dispensing Himself into His chosen and redeemed people; the second principle is that we should interpret, develop, and expound the truths contained in the Bible with Christ for the church; and the third governing principle is Christ, the Spirit, life, and the church. No other study or exposition of the New Testament conveys the life nourishment or ushers the reader into the divine revelation of God’s holy Word according to His New Testament economy as this one does.

"The entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, shows us that God is our enjoyment. God also has His fullness (Eph. 3:19b). He is full for us to enjoy. His fullness is the expression of the riches of Christ, and the reality of Christ is in the Spirit. We know this by the revelation of the Word. The riches of Christ are revealed in the Word. Furthermore, we can realize God as our enjoyment in our spirit (John 4:24)."
