Developing Public Service Leaders

release date: Oct 17, 2022
Developing Public Service Leaders
Developing Public Service Leaders examines why and how governments and representative bodies in public service organizations have mounted major interventions over the last two decades to develop senior staff as leaders. A critical explanation is developed of the foundational contribution made by national leadership development interventions in the 2000s to the emergence, proliferation, and normalization of leadership development provision. Through carrying out qualitative research in England, the authors investigate the national leadership development interventions for school education, healthcare, and higher education. Whilst also looking at the contemporary legacy of these interventions within a global scale, examining the growing international movement and comparing interventions across the world. The book looks at new ways to approach leadership development, adopting a novel perspective on leadership as a metaphorical concept and coining the concept of ''leaderism'', and exploring how although senior staff may be widely acculturated as leaders, they may not necessarily be committed to acting as government change agents. Leadership development makes a diffuse contribution towards the ongoing neoliberalization of public services. Developing Public Service Leaders is a comprehensive and essential read for a researcher or policymaker striving for an in-depth understanding of the field and its ramifications.

The Golden Rule

release date: Feb 15, 2022
The Golden Rule
The New York Times bestselling author of The Way of Serenity and Fox News analyst lays out the enduring wisdom and practicality of Jesus’ invitation to treat others as we would like to be treated. "Do unto others as you would have them do to you." As children, we are taught the Golden Rule, a simple yet timeless moral lesson that reminds us of our responsibility to others and to ourselves. Yet too many of us have forgotten its message. Harried, tired, stressed, we lash out at perceived grievances, injustices, and slights, forgetting to treat others with the consideration and respect we seek ourselves. In this thoughtful, positive, and loving book that speaks to our times, New York Times bestselling author and Fox News contributor Father Jonathan Morris offers meditations that encourage us to make the Golden Rule central to our daily lives. As he did for the Serenity Prayer in The Way of Serenity, Father Morris now does for this ethical rubric, revealing the power this simple wisdom holds to transform our lives and our world. Morris examines the Golden Rule through a contemporary lens to provide a modern re-reading of this classic ethical lesson and its relevance today. One of the most trusted Catholic voices, he encourages readers to incorporate the substantial contributions Jesus made to the maxim to help them center their lives and spiritual practice around kindness, compassion, and patience—virtues that can make us happier and ultimately more productive in our lives. Nurturing and uplifting, The Golden Rule reminds us that we are each but one of all God’s children in the world—unique beings intrinsically connected to each other, and the entirety of humanity.

The Self Help Saturated Brain

release date: Apr 11, 2021
The Self Help Saturated Brain
Enough with this, "I am beautiful. I am smart. I can do anything if I just believe in myself." Most of us are satisfactory in appearance, of average intelligence, will always have self-doubt, and will never achieve superstardom or tremendous wealth. And those that do, either lose it, spend it, or die before they can enjoy it. All things are relative; one man''s tent is another man''s castle.

Centre for Christian Living annual 2020

release date: Mar 03, 2021
Centre for Christian Living annual 2020
Is freedom of religion a human right? Is life without sex both good and realistic? How can we face infertility together as a church family? The Christian gospel transforms every aspect of our lives. If we don’t understand that, we don’t understand Christianity. The Centre for Christian Living, which operates out of Moore Theological College in Sydney, aims to bring biblical ethics to everyday issues—taking the theology and knowledge of God and showing how it shapes and directs every aspect of our daily lives. To that end, we have compiled this annual, which collects some of the material from our activities during 2020: essays from our public events, highlights from our podcast and articles by members of our student team at Moore College. Our hope is that you will find this collection helpful and encouraging as you live out the Christian life.

My Manic Brain

release date: Feb 04, 2021
My Manic Brain
My Manic Brain: Sex, Politics and Everlasting Life, is an unfiltered truth about the delusion of love and the true meaning of life. While the stories are based in fact, there is a healthy dose of philosophy, insight, analysis of cultural phenomena, humor, and commentary. Some chapters are lude and raw enough to warrant caution for young children. Designed to provoke, My Manic Brain spares nothing: vivid vulgarity, extreme emotion, tainted, tortured romance, Love, and the consequences of social media and rapidly advancing technology on our interpersonal communication and ability to trust. Are we swiping and ghosting ourselves into extinction or oblivion? Are we destined to enter an unimaginably mind-blowing virtual fantasy world? Are we losing our human touch? And, if so, is it a tragedy, comedy or simply an inevitable next step in our evolution? With philosophy and insight, self-help notions, and a healthy dose of humor and commentary, My Manic Brain focuses the mind on what matters most, finding meaning in an increasing narcistic, self-centered world. Do we create our happiness, or does it create us? How much pain is too much too bear? Are we ever satisfied and grateful? Are we ever ready to leave this pit of tears? And if we could upload ourselves into an immortal, infinite technological state, would we? Perhaps it all boils down to personal pleasure and satisfaction. Or maybe this is our dress rehearsal for eternity. Either way, here''s to us; here''s to life!

Coffee

release date: Oct 15, 2018
Coffee
Most of us can’t make it through morning without our cup (or cups) of joe, and we’re not alone. Coffee is a global beverage: it’s grown commercially on four continents and consumed enthusiastically on all seven—and there is even an Italian espresso machine on the International Space Station. Coffee’s journey has taken it from the forests of Ethiopia to the fincas of Latin America, from Ottoman coffee houses to “Third Wave” cafés, and from the simple coffee pot to the capsule machine. In Coffee: A Global History, Jonathan Morris explains both how the world acquired a taste for this humble bean, and why the beverage tastes so differently throughout the world. Sifting through the grounds of coffee history, Morris discusses the diverse cast of caffeinated characters who drank coffee, why and where they did so, as well as how it was prepared and what it tasted like. He identifies the regions and ways in which coffee has been grown, who worked the farms and who owned them, and how the beans were processed, traded, and transported. Morris also explores the businesses behind coffee—the brokers, roasters, and machine manufacturers—and dissects the geopolitics linking producers to consumers. Written in a style as invigorating as that first cup of Java, and featuring fantastic recipes, images, stories, and surprising facts, Coffee will fascinate foodies, food historians, baristas, and the many people who regard this ancient brew as a staple of modern life.

Light in the Darkness

Light in the Darkness
Fr. Jonathan Morris Calls Us to Be the Light of the World In 1945, Father James Keller saw a world at war, the beginnings of the cold war, and divisions at home. He was a man who believed that against all odds one person could make a difference - so he started a grass-roots movement called The Christophers - literally "Christbearers" - in the belief that each individual has a role in bringing hope and change to a troubled world. And the response was staggering. The world was hungry for the message, and embraced Fr. Keller''s motto: "IT IS BETTER TO LIGHT ONE CANDLE THAN TO CURSE THE DARKNESS." In 2014, the world is just as dangerous and chaotic, and in many ways far more insidious than in Fr. Keller''s day. No one knows the extent of this crisis better than Father Jonathan Morris, popular author and FOX news analyst. Here, in his new book Light in the Darkness, Fr. Johnathan brings you eight of the core teachings of Fr. Keller, along with his own insights, showing us how they relate to us today. A Sense of Purpose The Power of Love Sharing the Faith The Witness of Life Pray Always Becoming Like Christ Living as a Christian Trusting God Fr. Jonathan believes that now is the time for each of us to realize our own roles, and become "Christophers" in the world we live in today.
