Badge of Honor - a Medieval Romance

release date: Aug 01, 2007
Badge of Honor - a Medieval Romance
Catherine''s past warmed her with contented pride. Disguised as her alter-ego, Shadow, she had protected the villagers of her land, holding off wolves'' heads and bringing justice to the weak. Her life provided everything she could have dreamed of. Her future, in comparison, was bleak and desolate. Her council ordered her to submit to the courtships of Lord Epworth, a coward whose chosen path was to flee the chaos of the land and retreat to Ireland. The lecher seemed fully intent on keeping his stable of mistresses at his side as well. In the depths of her despair, Lord Epworth''s foster son, Jack, shone out as a beacon of honor and courage. But with so much at stake, could she go against the loyalties due her family and follow instead the passionate urgings of her heart? Spirits in the Material World - a Salem Bookstore Cozy Witch Mystery
Amber had finally found her calling. She owned a small but popular bookstore in the heart of Salem, Massachusetts. Surrounded by witches and Wiccans, by pagans and spirits, she treasured every day in the historic cobblestone streets. But one of her regulars, Mrs. McGillicuddy, needs help with a troublesome spirit. Amber quickly realizes is that this haunting goes far beyond just a run-of-the-mill poltergeist. It delves into the very heart of Salem''s troubled history. * * * Spirits in the Material World - a Salem Bookstore Cozy Witch Mystery is book one in the series The Magical Supernatural Paranormal Witches of Massachusetts. I live near Salem and visit it regularly - this book is chock-full of my own personal observations, visitations, and delight in roaming the streets and alleys of this amazing location. One of my ancestors was Ann Foster - a grandmother who gave in to the accusations at the Salem Witch Trials in order to protect her innocent daughter and granddaughter. Ann was put into jail, age 75, and she soon succumbed to the atrocious conditions there. I''d love to hear your thoughts on this series! I support battered women''s shelters.

In the Pines

In the Pines
Naomi Jackson never thought her life would come to this. She''d been abandoned by the father of her two children. Stranded during the last days of 1809 in a ramshackle stream-side home in rural Tennessee. But here she was. The Devil Bill Williams had vanished. Now it was up to her to care for her two innocent, beautiful children. God had already given her so much. She knew that David Oxendine was honor-bound to return south to care for his father. To return to the life he had sworn to care for. But where did that leave her? * * * Across the River - an 1800s Black / Native American Novella is the second in a series of novellas about Naomi Jackson''s heartfelt, challenging life. These stories are based loosely on author Lisa Shea''s real-life ancestor, Naomi Jackson, who was born in 1784 in Guilford County, North Carolina. Naomi''s father had been taken from Northern Ireland as a child, while her mother was mixed-blood black, Lumbee, and Irish. Each novella has a cliff-hanger ending, much like Naomi''s life. All author''s proceeds from the Naomi Jackson series benefits local battered women''s shelters. An important note for readers of my various series. Normally my content is quite "clean" with little to no swearing, violence, or physical intimacy. With this being based on the immense hardships my ancestor struggled through, I wanted to be authentic to the issues she rose above. This book therefore includes period-appropriate harsh language as well as several scenes of conflict. I gave a great deal of thought to including these and feel they are necessary to fully convey the trials she overcame. I apologize to those who feel uncomfortable reading that style of material. Please feel free to contact me at my website if you have any questions or comments - I thrive on your feedback.

Family Matters - a Compilation of Short Stories, Essays, Poetry, and Memories

release date: Dec 05, 2019
Family Matters - a Compilation of Short Stories, Essays, Poetry, and Memories
Family. In Spanish that''s familia. In Italian, famiglia. In Irish it is teaghlaigh and in Polish it''s rodzina. Throughout history, family has always been a complicated topic. It''s that complexity which brings a family its joy and strength. There is of course the biologic construction of a family. A sperm meets an egg and their DNA mix randomly together. What results is a completely unique one-of-a-kind person. Even with identical twins there are subtle differences, because DNA tends to have mutations as it splits and grows, and because chemicals in the womb can sometimes impact one embryo more than another. No two people are ever alike. Birth mother, birth father, and child. A family is not just about these three specific individuals. There are in many cases full siblings, half-siblings, and step-siblings. There can be a range of aunts and uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers, stepparents and guardians. Sometimes this collection of people is wholly and full-heartedly supportive. At other times, with people being the unique individuals that they are, they can have their own views on life. And that''s where the "chosen family" comes in. We always have the ability to choose and make our own family. We decide who we wish to fall in love with and spend our lives with. We choose to bring additional lives into our universe, whether it''s by having biologic children, adopting children, forging connections with true friends of all ages, or any other combination of relationships. Family is about a cheerleading squad. It''s about having the support you need to reach your goals. It''s about knowing, when life gets you down, that a group of people are there to hold you tight and to help you back up on your feet again. Family is to be treasured. Enjoy this collection of poetry, essays, short stories, memories, photos, and drawings which celebrate the wondrous diversity which is family. Authors featured in this compilation are: Christine Beauchaine Meghan Cameron Curtis K. Corey Juliana Cummings Linda DeFeudis Young Farwell Stephen Halpert Tasha Halpert Thomas Hollyday Sheryl Lynn Kimball Julia Kneeland S. M. Nevermore Jane Nozzolillo Ibi Obomanu Lily Penter Kevin Paul Saleeba Lisa Shea Ophelia Sikes Charles Smith Tawny Spring Ann Zimage The Sutton Writing Group supports local Toys for Tots programs.
