Go Suck A Lemon
People are not disturbed by things; they are disturbed by their view of things" Epictetus (c. 55 - 135 CE) Emotional intelligence (EI) refers to the ability to perceive, control, and evaluate emotions. Some researchers suggest that emotional intelligence can be learned and strengthened, while others claim it is an inborn characteristic. EI has been defined as, "the subset of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one''s own and others'' feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide one''s thinking and actions.""Go Suck A Lemon" hopes to provide readers with methods for improving emotional intelligence by offering cognitive skill building techniques, thereby helping to create a less self-defeating and more enriching experience when experiencing emotion.Keep up with your emotional intelligence gains! Get the Go Suck A Lemon APP! on Amazon.NOTE TO AUDIO BOOK LISTENERS: Thanks to everyone for your comments on the audible edition of Go Suck a Lemon. Recording the Lemon was tough for me. I have no training in voice performance, recording or editing. I am a clinical mental health therapist in private practice with a huge desire to share what I know with others. This audio book is not perfect, by any means. (It''s as imperfect as I am.) It is, however, the VERY best I could do on my own. If you can tolerate my best effort, please listen to this version. Otherwise you may enjoy the paperback or the Kindle version. Thank you to everyone who took the time to review it. I am very grateful for your words. Cheers!

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy Using Articulated Disputation

release date: Sep 05, 2016
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy Using Articulated Disputation
This study investigated the use of Articulated (spoken aloud) Thought (AT) as a method of addressing the perceived weaknesses in the REBT model''s transferability for clients from the clinical to real world settings. These data suggest there was no overall difference between the training and control groups on Emotional Intelligence or Social Problem Solving scales. There was an overall main effect by Time. This increase was significant only for the Training group. Improvement did not differ by Age or Sex on Post-test scores. An assumption could be drawn from the collected data that a continual increase in Emotional Intelligence and Social Problem Solving scores may have been realized, if the study had continued for a longer period of Time.

Back When We Were Trying

Back When We Were Trying
Most love stories are written as if love must succeed in order to matter. If the relationship lasts, the Story is called romantic. If it ends badly, the Story is called a mistake. The truth is much less tidy. Some of the most honest love stories are the ones that reveal how they ended. This book is about those stories-the ones people do not usually write down. The ones that end with confusion, disappointment, awkward silence, or the quiet realization that something once important has simply come to an end. These are the relationships that did not last, the connections that unraveled, and the attempts at love that did not work the way we hoped. Yet they are love stories all the same. A balanced understanding of love must include the moments when love evolves into something unexpected, incomplete, or simply unable to continue. These stories deserve to stand beside the love stories we celebrate because they reveal something just as important about how human relationships actually work. Many people grow up believing that if a relationship ends badly, someone must have failed. Either we were not good enough, the other person was not good enough, or the relationship itself was flawed from the beginning. One person becomes the villain while the other becomes the victim. Real relationships are rarely that simple. Love can be sincere and still not endure. Two people can care deeply about each other and still discover that they are not willing-or not able-to continue together. Sometimes love ends because circumstances change. Sometimes people change. Sometimes it ends for reasons neither person can fully explain. Too often, we are so busy assigning blame that we fail to recognize our own role in the ending. Each experience shapes how we understand connection and influences how we approach intimacy later on. Together they form what might be called our operational definition of love-the evolving understanding each of us develops about what love is, what it asks of us, and what it cannot always give. The stories in this collection explore many forms of connection: opposite-sex relationships, same-sex relationships, relationships involving more than two people, and sometimes the experience of standing alone as one tries to understand what love means. Love does not belong to one kind of relationship. It belongs to anyone willing to accept the risk that love demands. And trying, as it turns out, is often the most honest part of the Story. Over time, I have come to believe that the most useful definition of love may be this: to relinquish control and to offer in its place unconditional acceptance-without judgment, without comparison-and to promise to protect. Protection can mean many things. Sometimes it is simple: walking through the world together, caring for one another, sharing ordinary moments. Sometimes it means remaining present when life becomes painful, offering comfort when disappointment appears, and doing our best to reduce the emotional harm that life inevitably brings. But love, like the people who attempt it, is not perfect. There are moments when we discover that we cannot continue in the same way we once promised. Until we don''t. And when that moment arrives, we are left with something difficult but necessary: the responsibility to reassess, to change direction, and to carry forward what we have learned about love into whatever comes next. Because even the love stories that end badly still help us understand what love is.

Parenting the Homosexually Developing Adolescent

release date: Mar 01, 2011
Parenting the Homosexually Developing Adolescent
I was somewhat skeptical of using the term ""homosexually developing adolescent,"" fearing our culture''s traditional panic response to the words homosexual and adolescent used in the same breath. Additionally, it would be considered an outrage to use the words homosexuality and child in such close proximity. The implication being that all normal children develop within a heterosexual model - homosexuality being something of an enigma, a manifestation occurring only in adulthood. The phrase homosexually developing adolescent is proposed as a way of identifying the fact that the rules of attachment are established very early in life. If we don''t begin to recognize this dynamic, developmental process as naturally occurring within the framework of child development, we will be preventing the normal development of all children, heterosexual and homosexual.

The Chapbook

release date: Jan 14, 2012
The Chapbook
The term chap-book was formalized by bibliophiles of the 19th century, as a variety of ephemera (disposable printed material), popular or folk literature. It includes many kinds of printed material such as pamphlets, political and religious tracts, nursery rhymes, poetry, folk tales, children''s literature and almanacs. Where there were illustrations, they would be popular prints. The term is derived from chapmen - the word chap coming from the Old English céap meaning deal, barter, business. Peddlers once created chapbooks to illustrate the variety of materials they held in stock. The term is also in use for present-day publications, usually poetry, of up to about 40 pages, ranging from low-cost productions to expensive, finely produced editions. This Chapbook is a collection of works, including book descriptions and excerpts by Michael Cornwall (14 January 2012).
