Why Does Everyone Steal My Lighter?

release date: Oct 03, 2023
Why Does Everyone Steal My Lighter?
Michael Johnston''s unruly and hysterical novel follows a cast of characters from the ''90s rock band, Texas Flip: their story told through various concerts during the band''s two-plus-decade career, each leap in time connected by a fine thread of rushed quarter notes, broken strings, and free drink tickets. Amongst them is Zach Long, guitarist and overseer of their dogged pursuit of musical excellence. Luke Strange, lead singer and bass player whose sex addiction has ruined more than one performance. A manager, Todd Shift, clutching at the group''s frayed coattails for as long as their ride will last.Collected, these musicians deliver the playbook of what life in a band used to be like--navigating a world without GPS, social media, or legal marijuana, with a thirst for only the next gig or riff, with amusement and passion and simplicity. Regarded as an early classic, Why Does Everyone Steal My Lighter? is right away comical and entertaining, wholly funny and justly memorable.

Origin of Lgbt
The majority of historians agree that there is evidence of homosexual behavior and same-sex relationships in every society that has been studied, regardless of whether such partnerships were tolerated or outlawed. Lesbian, homosexual, bisexual, and transgender social movements: a short history/Bonnie J. Morris, PhD One shooter killed several people at the well-known gay dance club Pulse in Orlando on June 12, 2016. The deadliest mass shooting in American history, this hate crime left at least 49 people dead and another 50 wounded. It happened throughout the weekend that was LGBT Pride weekend in American cities and towns. The President of the United States reached out to express his outrage and concern and received an immediate, compassionate response from mayors, police, and FBI officials, as well as local and national politicians. This shows the enormous shift in public opinion in favor of acceptance and support for the LGBT community. Even though the LGBT community and people continue to be the subject of hate crimes and retaliation on a global scale, activists'' and supporters'' tireless efforts have allowed us to reach a time where those who commit acts of violence rather than their victims are decried as mentally ill. Building a Clean Machine

Building a Clean Machine
Many societies have limited corruption through the broad-based mobilization of a diverse range of interests willing and able to defend themselves by making meaningful demands for accountability of, and limits on, official power, and for an end to illicit advantages enjoyed by others. Historically such a process has taken place gradually, as political development has proceeded and the base of participation broadens. But today''s high-corruption societies cannot wait for several generations to see such developments take place. The authors argue that social action coalitions, linking public and private actors, are a way to mobilize these sorts of participation and advocacy. Such coalitions are neither a new idea nor a guarantee of successful reforms. In many instances they win out by default as an anti-corruption strategy. But they contend that if sustained by careful planning and a diverse set of incentives, they can reinforce political will and enhance the strength of civil society. Coalition-building efforts are underway in many societies. But too often they have focused only on anti-corruption tactics and pursuing their own growth, rather than looking at the coalition-building process in more general terms. In Part I, the authors employ Wilson''s (1973) analysis of the incentives that motivate and reward participation in organizations. This approach helps them identify ways in which the anti-corruption goals can be augmented by other kinds of appeals, even when material incentives are scarce. The authors also identify four stages of the coalition-building process-formation, credibility, expansion, and transformation-in which differing combinations of incentives will be necessary to address the group''s most important problems and opportunities. In Part II the authors examine two important coalition-building efforts in light of the discussions thus far-Ghana''s Anti-Corruption Coalition, and the Bangalore Agenda Task Force in Bangalore, Karnataka State, India. In Part III the authors link those cases to a broader analysis, suggesting that while purposive incentives are common in the early phases of all coalitions, other varieties must be added to the mix. Wilson''s scheme points to ways in which the imaginative use of incentives can aid the transition from one phase of coalition development to the next. The authors conclude with general strategic issues, suggesting ways in which their analysis can be applied to those questions given the important variations to ...

What New Parent Don't Know

What New Parent Don't Know
Happy, sad, annoyed, ecstatic, incensed, and disappointed. Calm. These are just a handful of the many emotions that influence how we live our lives every day. Our conduct is influenced by our emotions, which are fundamental to the human experience. We all go through a spectrum of emotions, and they have a significant impact on our life from birth. We exhibit a basic set of emotions, such as joy, sorrow, anger, surprise, and disgust, beginning in infancy. We continue to feel these feelings throughout infancy and adulthood, becoming more sophisticated and nuanced as we mature, such as with shame, hope, and guilt. To determine a young kid''s likes, dislikes, desires, and needs, parents and caregivers may learn to read their emotional signs. If they are perceptive and receptive to these cues, they can help their child control their emotions. For instance, a parent may feed and rock a wailing baby to quiet it down, or they may cuddle and speak calmly to a toddler to calm him down. This process of controlling a child''s emotions is known as external regulations. As early childhood develops, children start to transition from depending only on external regulation (such as a caregiver hugging them) to acquiring their internal emotion management skills (taking a deep breath to calm themselves down on their own). The word "emotion regulation" refers to both internal and external mechanisms that enable a person to keep track of, assess, and adjust their emotional responses. Research demonstrates that children who have strong emotion regulation skills are more likely to have positive relationships with peers, perform better academically in the short and long-term, and transition into later grades more smoothly. As a result, developing emotion regulation (and in particular, internal regulation ability) is an important milestone for children. the author Michael Johnston, has coach many parents in the upbringing of their children. In this book he has shows how parental emotion can effect the child.. to know more get a copy of this book.

When someone looks you in the eye, what does it mean? How can you flirt without coming off as overly pushy? The Powers of Horror in "The Love Song of St. Sebastian" and "The Death of Saint Narcissus": a Study of Abjection and Jouissance In T. S. Eliot's Early Martyr Poems

The Powers of Horror in "The Love Song of St. Sebastian" and "The Death of Saint Narcissus": a Study of Abjection and Jouissance In T. S. Eliot's Early Martyr Poems
The purpose of this essay is to perform a close examination of two of T. S. Eliot''s early, uncollected poems, entitled "The Love Song of St. Sebastian" and "The Death of Saint Narcissus." One of the problems that arises in an appraisal of these poems is that they rest uneasily alongside his more prominent texts. Their psycho-sexual, masochistic fixation clashes with the more austere, detached portrayals of sexuality in his later poetry, and the confessional nature of the poems also conflicts with his declared poetics of impersonality that he describes famously in his essays "Tradition and the Individual Talent" and "The Functions of Criticism." This essay undertakes a psychoanalytic reading of both of these poems, and also explores the persistence of their influence in his later work. The research includes a number of primary, secondary, and tertiary texts. I have drawn heavily from Eliot''s own writings: his poetry, his essays, and also some of his lectures. His discussion of the differences between "classical mysticism" and "romantic mysticism" in The Clark Lectures is an important touchstone in the explorations of the essay. My psychoanalytic reading is also grounded in the works of Jacques Lacan and Julia Kristeva, as well as the French Surrealist, Georges Bataille. In my second chapter I have made use of the ideas from Lacan''s first and third seminars to explore the symptoms of psychosis and neurosis in Eliot and his early poetic personas, Sebastian and Narcissus. And in my third chapter I use the Kristevan idea of abjection from her work Powers of Horror to accentuate the peculiar blend of "torture and delight," "divine ecstasy and extreme horror" exhibited in Eliot''s sick saints. Also, Laurie MacDiarmid and Donald Childs, are two recent Eliot historians and critics that have figured prominently in triangulating my own reading of Eliot and his writings. My research has revealed that, as much as Eliot created these saints to be examples of "sick spirituality" and a failed "romantic" mysticism, the unmistakable passion and jouissance that arises out of their abjection reveals that Eliot, the doubting neurotic, actually desires their psychotic certainty. He revisits the subject of martyrdom for a final time in his later play The Cocktail Party. It is here that he gives his final saint, Celia Copplestone, a more orthodox martyrdom, stripped of the blasphemy and narcissism of his earlier saints. While in the play she is the scapegoat and intercessor for the other characters that are trapped in banality the Modern world, more importantly she is Eliot''s own scapegoat. And like Saint Narcissus and Sebastian, she achieves in her abjected, macabre, eroticized martyrdom the divine ecstasy that Eliot can only desire after but never personally achieve.
