This book of landscape and genre paintings by the 19th-century Korean artist Gisan documents traditional daily life in Korea around 1900. Gisan worked in Korean port cities and as a result his work was disseminated and sold internationally. In fact, the number of his works in North American and European collections far surpasses that found in Korea. Korea Around 1900 includes 27 poster-format paintings from the collections of the Royal Ontario Museum as well as 23 small-format paintings from the National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden, Netherlands. The ink-and-colour paintings depict a vanished Korea of pastoral landscapes, traditional customs and costume, and the rhythm of the seasons.

Founded by Marius Barbeau, the pioneer of French-Canadian decorative arts recognition, the Royal Ontario Museum''s is the most significant collection of early French-Canadian furniture outside Quebec. Armoires, cradles, chairs, tables, desks, commodes, buffets, cupboards, chests, and room paneling are included. The furniture of New France reflected the styles and traditions of the earliest settlers'' ancestral homes, Brittany and Normandy especially. Later British and American influences were most pronounced in urban centres. In rural towns and villages, French artisanship continued to the mid-19th century. By 1900, the tradition had been supplanted by the mass-produced furniture of mechanised factories. Rococo to Rustique looks at 200 years of French-Canadian furniture and surveys the social and historical context in which the furniture was produced, illustrated in part through watercolours from the museum''s celebrated collection of Canadian heritage art.

While Black-Figure and Red-Figure vases appear in the CVA volumes, this catalogue presents 326 examples of other Greek painted traditions, ranging from the Aegean Bronze Age to the 1st century BC. The types range from regular shapes (hydria, kraters, aryballoi and so on) to some truly weird vases in the shapes of legs and helmeted heads. Extensive descriptions and crisp photos.

Most of the 111 pieces described and illustrated (with line drawings) in this catalogue come from Roman London. As the author points out, the proportion of decorated samian ware from Gaulish mints represented in the ROM collection supports the Museum of London''s estimation that almost 65% came from South Gaul and the minority (30% from Central Gaul, 5% from East Gaul) came from the factories represented here.

This study presents a detailed description of the structure of the call note system of the Warbling Vireo, Vireo glivus gilvus, in southern Ontario. Properties or attributes used to describe calls are form, context, message, frequency of occurrence, and function. Relationships among calls with respect to each of the attributes and among the attributes are described. Attribute relationships are interdependent, and understanding of form and context relationships is facilitated by use of cluster and principal component analyses.
