An Autobiography

An Autobiography
"An Autobiography by Theodore Roosevelt is a dynamic and personal account of the life of one of the most energetic figures in American history. Written after his presidency, the book traces Roosevelt''s journey from a sickly, asthmatic child in New York to a reform-minded statesman, soldier, explorer, and President of the United States. Roosevelt recounts his early fascination with natural history, his commitment to physical strength and discipline, and his entry into politics. He reflects on his role as a New York reformer, his leadership of the Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War, and his presidency (1901–1909), during which he pursued progressive reforms, conservation policies, and a more assertive American presence on the world stage. The autobiography is marked by Roosevelt''s vigorous tone and moral conviction. He emphasizes courage, responsibility, and public service as central virtues. Rather than dwelling on private emotion, he focuses on action, principle, and duty. The book offers insight into the political and social challenges of the early twentieth century, presenting Roosevelt as both a pragmatic leader and an idealist committed to national strength and reform."

Their colourful and often unorthodox exploits received extensive publicity in the American press.Col. Leonard Wood resigned as White House physician to command the regiment. Roosevelt, who resigned as assistant secretary of the U.S. Navy, was second in command. It was a flamboyant unit that received more publicity than any other unit in that war, especially for its uphill charge in the Battle of Santiago (July 1, 1898). The Rough Riders joined in the capture of Kettle Hill and then charged across a valley to assist in the seizure of San Juan Ridge, the highest point of which is San Juan Hill.

The Man in the Arena

release date: Mar 01, 2016
The Man in the Arena
The first compilation of selections from the major works of Teddy Roosevelt since the resurgence in his popularity due to the major award-winning/bestselling biographies by Edmond Morris and H. W. Brands By the time he was twenty-five the future president of the United States was already a published author. From The Naval War of 1812 through his four-volume Winning of the West, Teddy Roosevelt proved himself a master historian...but one must not make the mistake of labeling him a stodgy academic. The future president was also a great outdoorsman, with such works as Ranch Life and the Hunting Trail and African Game Trails capturing his rough and ready lifestyle. Theodore Roosevelt was part Francis Parkman, part Lowell Thomas, and one hundred percent spirit of America and master of the printed page. The Man in the Arena collects self-contained excerpts from some of his greatest works, including such revealing memoirs as The Rough Riders, the Autobiography, and Through the Brazilian Wilderness, in an effort to capture the many aspects of a great American who was indeed larger than life and his own best "Boswell." "This collection of his writings gives credence to Henry Adams''s assertion that Roosevelt was "pure Act": there was, it seems, no subject (or foe) he was afraid to tackle. Hunting the Grisly and Other Sketches

release date: Feb 18, 2016
Hunting the Grisly and Other Sketches
For a man who grew up to become the "Bull Moose", Theodore Roosevelt was a sickly child, suffering from asthma and other maladies. But his physical weakness actually drove him to be more active, which also fostered an interest in nature. It also helped that Teddy''s family was wealthy, allowing him privileges including home school and the ability to attend Harvard, where he was an athlete and took an interest in naval affairs. After finishing at Harvard, Teddy entered politics, but it didn''t stop him from writing The Naval War of 1812 in 1882, establishing himself as a professional writer and historian. In the 1890s, it was Teddy''s turn to make history, leading the Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War and being decorated for his service with a Medal of Honor. He parlayed his glory into the governorship of New York and then the Vice Presidency under William McKinley. When McKinley was assassinated in 1901, young Teddy was thrust into the presidency, one that would earn him a place on Mount Rushmore, Roosevelt''s "Square Deal" domestic policies favored average citizens while busting trusts and monopolies. Roosevelt also promoted conservation as an environmental stance, while his "speak softly and carry a big stick" foreign policy is still an oft used phrase today. Roosevelt even earned a Nobel Prize during his presidency. By the time Roosevelt died in 1919, he was an American icon. Today, Teddy is remembered for being an explorer, hunter, author, soldier, president, and safari adventurer, all of which combine into one unique reputation.

Autobiography of Theodore Roosevelt

release date: Jul 01, 2013
Autobiography of Theodore Roosevelt
Theodore Roosevelt was the twenty-sixth President of the United States. A leader of the Republican Party and of the Progressive Party, he was a Governor of New York and a professional historian, naturalist, explorer, hunter, author, and soldier. He was a Progressive reformer who sought to move the dominant Republican Party into the Progressive camp. He distrusted wealthy businessmen and dissolved forty monopolistic corporations as a "trust buster". He was clear, however, to show he did not disagree with trusts and capitalism in principle but was only against corrupt, illegal practices. Roosevelt was a great personality, a great activist, a great preacher of the moralities, a great controversialist, a great showman. He dominated his era.

Theodore Roosevelt's Ranch Life and the Hunting Trail
Before he ascended to the highest office in the land as the United States youngest president, Theodore Roosevelt, with illustrations by Frederic Remington, though a New York City man born and bred, was a devotee of the Old West. In 1888, he published this charming ode to the American frontier, from the rewarding hard work of a rancher on the open plains to the pleasures of hunting the big game of mountains high. Today, the inimitable prose and infectious enthusiasm of Roosevelts writing here serves as much to limn a unique aspect of the character of the nation as it sings an elegy for a disappearing way of life. Includes numerous illustrations by Frederic Remington. Also available from Cosimo Classics: Roosevelts Letters to His Children, A Book-Lovers Holidays in the Open, America and the World War, Through the Brazilian Wilderness and Papers on Natural History, The Strenuous Life: Essays and Addresses, and Historic Towns: New York Politician and soldier, naturalist and historian, American icon THEODORE ROOSEVELT, (18581919) was 26th President of the United States, serving from 1901 to 1909, and the first American to win a Nobel Prize, in 1906, when he was awarded the Peace Prize for mediating the Russo-Japanese War.
