In Watchword, William Fuller plots the paths of consciousness with sensitivity and precision. Poetry. Drawing equally on Buddhist sutras and country blues, William Fuller''s SADLY derives compassion from its ironic vision. Poetry. In this pamphlet-length poem, William Fuller offers a text where language is a wing. Fuller makes perceptible the struggle for the text to co-exist with its human interpreters (both author and reader). We are confronted with a poem which states Land alleges my form / amputated by poetry. In this poem written in memory of Tim McGinnis, Fuller places our mortality at the book''s core: Neither flesh nor word, I look back from where I will go. William Fuller lives and works in Chicago, Ill. His previous books include BYT and THE SUGAR BORDERS (both O Books) and AETHER (Gaz).

These poems were written over a period of several years. They cover a range of topics from memories of segregation in Alabama, to high school loves, to the discovery of an exotic, albeit unsavory, world from Malaysia to the Philippines. God specializes in unusual events--not expected! As a common man, I have experienced many such events, including the death of a spouse and a son, as well as deliverance from massive debt. God tests our faith to see how much we believe. He then answers, sometimes in the most unexpected manner. We cannot figure out God. We can only love and trust Him.
